The San Francisco 49ers will open their preseason Saturday evening against the Tennessee Titans. Teams never get through a training camp without making at least minor tweaks to their 90-man roster. For the 49ers, the lead-up to their first preseason matchup of the year has come with a slew of roster maneuvers to account for a lack of availability at certain positions.

While it’s not ideal to thrust new players into a game situation on the fly, minor moves on the margins are much more palatable than, say, trading an All-Pro wide receiver in the middle of camp. There are also a handful of players missing either on injured lists or because of holdouts. Trent Williams, for example, is not technically on the 90-man roster because he’s on the reserve/did not report list.

The 90-man maximum roster will remain intact until final cuts on August 27 when teams have to trim their groups to 53.

With moves all done and the 49ers finally in Nashville for their first game action of the 2024 campaign, here’s a position-by-position look at their 90-man roster (names listed alphabetically, rookies in bold):

Final Thoughts on the Roster

This roster is a mix of proven veterans and exciting young talent. The 49ers have a chance to be a very good team in 2024, but it will be interesting to see how the team performs with such a young, developing roster. It’s still early, but the 49ers have a bright future ahead of them.
