Alex Pereira Weighs in at a Massive 230 Pounds Before UFC 307 Title Defense

UFC returns to Utah with a stacked Pay-Per-View event, headlined by a pair of thrilling championship bouts. UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira goes for his third successful title defense of 2024 when he collides with No. 8 ranked contender Khalil Rountree Jr. in a battle of KO artists. Also, UFC bantamweight champion Raquel Pennington defends against former titleholder and No. 1 ranked contender Julianna Peña in a grudge match dating back to The Ultimate Fighter Season 18 more than a decade ago.

UFC 307: Pereira vs Rountree Jr.  takes place Saturday, October 5 at Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, with the main card at 10pm ET/7pm PT on ESPN+ PPV. The prelims will be available on ESPNEWS and ESPN Deportes, as well as simulcast in English and Spanish on ESPN+, at 8pm ET/5pm PT. The night’s action will start at 6pm ET/3pm PT with early prelims on ESPN+ (English and Spanish) and UFC FIGHT PASS.

Title fights are scheduled for five rounds. All other bouts scheduled for three rounds.

Alex Pereira is going to be absolutely massive when he steps into the octagon at UFC 307.

“Poatan” puts his light heavyweight title on the line for the third time this year against Khalil Rountree to cap off Saturday’s pay-per-view card in Salt Lake City. After hitting the mark at 205 pounds at Friday’s UFC 307 official weigh-in, Pereira stepped on the scale during a pre-fight meal, and weighed a whopping 230 pounds — a video that originally was seen on Pereira’s Instagram stories.

Pereira weighed in at 104.3 kilograms, which equates to 229.9 pounds. The two-division title winner captured the light heavyweight championship at UFC 295 this past November with a knockout of Jiri Prochazka. He then went on to knockout Jamahal Hill, and Prochazka for a second time at UFC 300 and UFC 303, respectively.

In the co-feature, women’s bantamweight champ Raquel Pennington (16-9 MMA, 13-5 UFC) defends her title for the first time when she meets ex-champ Julianna Peña (12-5 MMA, 7-3 UFC). In addition, two-time Olympic gold medalist and former PFL champ Kayla Harrison (17-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) takes on Ketlen Vieira (14-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) as a huge favorite.

Court McGee vs Tim Means

Round 1 – Early combo and then right hand by McGee. He clinches Means and presses him against the cage. Means breaks free a few seconds later and takes the center of the cage. A couple of nice shots get through for Means. McGee’s right eye is a bit busted up. McGee shoots and takes down Means. We’re halfway through the round. McGee partially takes the back of Means and is looking for the submission. Full back control by McGee. He’s attacking with a rear-naked choke. Means taps! McGee wins!

Tecia Pennington vs Carla Esparza

Round 1 – Pennington takes the center of the cage. Nice right-hand lands for Pennington. Another combo from Pennington. Esparza has yet to throw something meaningful. Leg kick by Pennington. Another combo connects by Pennington. Man, Pennington is looking good early. Two more leg kicks connect for Pennington. Esparza tries to close the distance and eats a knee to the head. Esparza looks a bit hurt. She shoots and takes down Pennington. Esparza moves to side control. Great control here by Esparza. Two minutes left. Short shots land for Esparza. One minute left. Pennington unable to shake off Esparza. Esparza ends the round on top. Close round.

Round 2 – Leg kick by Pennington. Pennington a little more patient in this round. Another couple of leg kicks connect for Pennington. Oh! Big right-hand lands for Esparza. Three minutes left. Ryan Spann vs Ovince Saint Preux

Round 1 – Leg kick by Saint Preux. Spann returns fire with his own leg kick. Big leg kick by Spann. Low kick by Saint Preux halts the action. A few seconds later, it resumes. Oh! Big right hand by Spann. Saint Preux with a left! Oh! Big right hand by Spann rocks Saint Preux! Saint Preux shoots for the takedown! He gets caught in a guillotine! Ther’s the tap! Spann wins!

Cesar Almeida vs Ihor Potieria

Round 1 – They both trade leg kicks. Several leg kicks land for Almeida, who circles Potieria. A couple of high kicks thrown by Potieria, but they don’t connect. Oh! Big counter fight by Almeida. Potieria closes the distance and presses lmeida against the cage. We’re halfway through the round. Almeida breaks free. Slid right hand by Almeida. Potieria shoots and presses Almeida against the cage. Almeida breaks free quickly. Leg kick by Almeida. Right hand lands for Almeida. Oh, man. Big leg kick by Almeida. Potieria shoots and takes down Almaida. Almaida back up, but being pressed against the cage. Almeida breaks free. Last 30 seconds. Nothing much happens before the bell.

Spinning back kick to the body by Lucindo. Oh! Rodriguez rocks Lucindo with a right hand! Lucindo closes the distance and takes down Rodriguez. One minute left. Short shots by Lucindo. Lucindo moves to side control The bell rings.

Round 2 – Rodriguez is walking down Lucindo here. They both swining, but neither connecting clean so far. Big right connects for Lucindo, but Rodriguez answers back with a combo. Lucindo closes the distance and takes down Rodriguez. We’re halfway through the round. Short shots here and there from Lucindo. Lucindo working from half guard. More short shots by Lucindo. Round 3 – One, two lands for Lucindo. Rodriguez rushes in and Lucindo gets two under hooks. Lucindo takes down Rodriguez. Rodriguez is bleeding bad from the her right bone cheek. It looks like the cut stemmed from a clash of head. Lucindo on mount. Referee Marc Goddard stands them up, as Lucindo was putting her chin on Rodriguez’s eyes. She gets a hard warning and loses position. Nice right hand by Lucindo. Two minutes left. Nice elbow by Rodriguez. Rodriguez putting on the pressure here. Rodriguez takes down Lucindo, but gets caught in a leg lock! Shots from top by Rodriguez. Lucindo reverses the position and gets top control on Rodriguez. Gorund and pound by Lucindo.
