As September ushers in cooler weather, AMC+ will welcome a sprinkling of new television shows. Unlike other months, the streaming service doesn’t have a long list of series slated for release in the coming weeks. Nonetheless, everything scheduled to hit the platform next month will most certainly entertain those who decide to watch.
With a fan favorite returning for a second season and a stranger than fiction docuseries heading to AMC+, viewers won’t want to miss what the streaming service plans to drop next month. However, given most of the shows lean more toward the spooky genre, those who prefer less gore and frights should probably steer clear of the streaming platform in the coming weeks. That being said, there’s still plenty of exciting entertainment available on the platform.
The Tailor of Sin City is a docuseries that chronicles the fascinating true story of AJ Pratt, a gifted small-town tailor who built a wildly successful drug and fashion empire in Las Vegas in 1970 thanks to the mob's secret backing. He also formed an unbelievable friendship with Pablo Escobar during the height of the Colombian drug lord’s terror.
Based on the book The Tailor: How I Dressed Elvis, Escobar, the Mob…and Became the Las Vegas King of Cocaine, co-authored by Sal Manna and AJ Pratt himself, the series highlights Pratt’s conflicting loyalties to the Mob, the Colombian cartel, the FBI, and his seven wives. While Pratt’s rise to prominence was impressive, his fall from grace was equally mesmerizing. The show purports to be as close to the truth as possible, given how well Pratt was known to keep a secret. In an effort to unravel what really happened all those decades ago, those who knew him best attempt to piece it all together. The Tailor of Sin City is streaming on Sept. 12.
Premiering in 2014 on Syfy, Z Nation was met with mixed reviews upon its release but managed to run for five seasons, all of which will soon be available on AMC+. The series follows a group of survivors three years into the zombie apocalypse who are charged with transporting the only known survivor of a zombie bite from New York to California. In the days before the apocalypse, Murphy (Keith Allan), an inmate at Portsmouth Naval Prison in Maine, was unwillingly used to test the viability of a vaccine for the emerging virus. Miraculously, he survived the experiment and managed to escape the prison after society fell and the facility was abandoned.
Not all zombie TV series can be The Walking Dead, but these titles offer up their own thrills, chills, and occasional laughs.
With the ability to sustain multiple zombie bites without turning into one, Murphy holds a distinct advantage over everyone else still alive. During his travels, he encounters a small group of survivors led by Lieutenant Roberta Warren (Kellita Smith). After they realize his blood contains antibodies that could save all of humanity, they pledge to take him to the world's last known functioning Centers for Disease Control research lab in California. However, while his condition appears to be a godsend, Murphy holds a dark secret that could threaten all of his new friends. Z Nation is streaming on Sept. 20.
The next chapter in the Daryl Dixon spin-off series, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol, follows Carol (Melissa McBride) on her quest to find her friend. Absent for the entirety of the first season, Carol entered the fray in the finale, intent on finding out what happened to Daryl (Norman Reedus). Unbeknownst to her, he washed ashore in the place where the zombie virus began, France. As he struggled to piece together how he got there and why, he encountered a headstrong, progressive nun named Isabelle Carriere (Clémence Poésy) and a highly intelligent boy named Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi). During his time with them, he discovers Isabelle’s religious group believes Laurent is the future Messiah meant to lead humanity to a renewal.
Netflix added several great AMC original titles to its library this month, giving fans an abundance of classics and gems to check out.
Throughout the first season, Daryl encounters unusual walkers and experiences unexplainable events regarding Laurent’s abilities. As the show enters its second season, Carol and Daryl’s path back to one another continues to diverge. While Carol remains determined as ever to locate her friend, Daryl struggles with the decision he made at the end of Season 1 to stay in France. In the meantime, Genet’s (Anne Charrier) nationalist movement, Pouvoir, continues to build momentum, ultimately setting the organization on a collision course with the Union of Hope as each side fights for their version of France’s future. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol is streaming on Sept. 29.
