Trevor Rogers Traded to Baltimore Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles have acquired left-handed starting pitcher Trevor Rogers from the Miami Marlins in a trade that sent prospects Connor Norby and Kyle Stowers to Miami.
Rogers, 26, has struggled this season with the Marlins, posting a 2-9 record with a 4.53 ERA in 21 starts. However, he has shown flashes of his potential, including a 2.64 ERA in 2021 when he was named an All-Star and finished second in NL Rookie of the Year voting.
The Orioles are hoping that Rogers can rediscover his old form in Baltimore. The team is in need of starting pitching depth, and Rogers' two years of remaining team control make him an attractive option.
Norby and Stowers Head to Miami
In exchange for Rogers, the Orioles parted with two of their top prospects in Norby and Stowers.
Norby, 24, is a second baseman and outfielder who is ranked as the Orioles' No. 12 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline. He is a skilled hitter with a good eye at the plate and the ability to hit for power and speed.
Stowers, 26, is an outfielder who is ranked as the Orioles' No. 15 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline. He is a good all-around hitter with power, speed, and a solid on-base percentage.
Orioles Bolster Rotation for Playoff Push
The acquisition of Rogers gives the Orioles a much-needed boost to their starting rotation. The team is currently in a tight race for the AL East title, and Rogers' experience and potential will be valuable down the stretch.
The Orioles have now made several moves before the trade deadline, adding Rogers, outfielder Eloy Jimenez, and reliever Gregory Soto to their roster. The team is clearly all-in on making a playoff push in 2024.
