Get ready to celebrate the 15th annual Belleville Rotary Porchfest musical love-in featuring dozens of live acts on porches across Old East Hill neighbourhood on Saturday. The event is a beloved community tradition that brings together residents and visitors alike to enjoy a day filled with music, community, and good times.
The event will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Rotary Club of Belleville, the organizers of the event, described it as “a neighbourhood celebration of music, where residents in East Hill perform on front porches to an audience that moves from house to house.” The event is completely free, making it accessible to everyone. The opening ceremony will take place at Glanmore National Historic Site at 12:45 p.m.
Organizers invite Porchfest revelers to join the opening ceremony Saturday at 12:45 p.m. at Glanmore National Historic Site at 257 Bridge Street East. Music at all venues runs from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. including at Porchfest organizers Sam Brady’s home directly across the street from Glanmore House.
The event has grown significantly since its inception in 2009. This year, there are over 60 venues, including some in the downtown district. Last year saw more than 60 performers at homes throughout the Old East Hill. The event attracts hundreds of spectators each year.
“This is a free family oriented event,” organizers said. “Porchfest attracts dozens of performers and hundreds of spectators to this grassroots community event each year. A great way to explore East Hill while enjoying the talents of our local musicians,” organizers said.
The event is family-friendly and there are a number of suggestions for those planning on performing or attending the event. Musicians play in either acoustic or “unplugged” manner. Everyone should treat everyone with respect, be mindful of private property and do not litter. Attendees should also be aware of children regarding safety, language, smoking, and alcohol.
Last year’s gathering proved quite enjoyable and uneventful with uniformed Belleville Police officers on bicycle patrol for a police presence. The City of Belleville provided portable washrooms at locations throughout the event.
The celebration continues later in the day until 9:30 p.m. at the Porchfest After Party in Downtown Belleville. The Porchfest Afterparty Concert serves as the perfect finale to this day of musical celebrations. Local band Big Black Smoke starts the after party concert at 4 p.m., showcasing two-and-three-part harmonies of classic British rock songs from the ’60s and ’70s. Ed’s Garage rounds up the entertainment lineup as they perform original material as well as covers by Paul McCartney, the Eagles, Tragically Hip, Alan Parsons, Supertramp and more. Admission to the Porchfest Afterparty Concert is free, making it an accessible and family-friendly event for all to enjoy.
“Whether you’re a longtime resident of Belleville or a visitor looking to experience the city’s vibrant culture, this event is not to be missed,” said organizers.
