News headlines have not been kind to Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez in recent months amid ongoing reports they are heading for divorce. However, the Gone Girl star looked practically unrecognizable in a new photo while sporting a fresh haircut.

On Saturday, Aug. 3, Affleck, 51, was photographed during an outing in Los Angeles, Calif. He donned a black Red Hot Chili Peppers T-shirt and gray jeans in the snap, finishing the look with a pair of sunglasses.

However, the actor also sported a new 'do—a shaved faux-hawk, to be exact—ditching his signature hairstyle.

The new picture made fans do a double take, and they didn't hold back with their reactions via Instagram. One person wrote, "Say you’re going through a midlife crisis without saying you are going through a midlife crisis."

Another agreed, commenting, "He’s having major life crisis," while someone else echoed, "Poor guy always looks so miserable."

"Lawd, Jlo pushed that man right over the edge," yet another fan declared.

However, others had a different theory. "Probably for a movie, everybody needs to relax," one Instagram user pointed out.

A second shared, "I'm going to go with a movie role despite the easy rumor."

Affleck's new hairstyle comes during a reportedly tumultuous time in his marriage. Rumors of an impending divorce have swirled since May, and he and Lopez have spent key milestones apart, including their second anniversary, J.Lo's 55th birthday, a vacation in Europe and more.

Recently, Bennifer listed their $60 million Beverly Hills mansion for sale. Affleck, meanwhile, purchased a $20 million home in LA the same day Lopez sold her New York City penthouse.

Affleck's weekend outing comes about as he and wife Jennifer Lopez have been spending time on opposite coasts in recent weeks.

The Air star has spent most of the summer in Los Angeles, where he has been working on the upcoming sequel The Accountant 2 and enjoying time with his kids. (He shares Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, with ex Jennifer Garner.)

Lopez, 55, meanwhile, has been spending time with friends and family in the Hamptons. She recently celebrated her birthday during a Bridgerton-themed party last month. Affleck was not in attendance for the festivities.

A source told PEOPLE in June that Affleck and Lopez didn’t "have any summer plans together" and were "focused on their separate lives."

Affleck recently closed escrow on a five-bedroom property on Wednesday, July 24, PEOPLE previously confirmed.

The $20.5 million Los Angeles estate has a “sense of privacy and seclusion” and is “not trendy,” a source recently said.

"The environment is family-friendly, but it could easily be transformed into a bachelor pad," the source continued, adding that Affleck's new neighborhood, which is home to numerous other entertainment industry A-listers, "boasts a sophisticated crowd—it's not trendy. Real establishment.”

Affleck and Lopez's shared Beverly Hills mansion remains on the market with an asking price of $68 million. The couple initially shopped the house off market in June, before publicly listing it in July, amid reports of ongoing strain in their marriage.

The couple bought the property for $60,850,000 in May 2023 after they wed in July 2022.

In what might be the strongest indicator of a Bennifer divorce yet, Affleck was seen on Sunday zooming around L.A. on a bright-blue electric motorcycle, a Red Hot Chili Peppers tee clinging to his torso and his hair buzzed into a wide strip running vertically along the top of his skull. That is one way to indicate that you’ve “finalized” divorce papers.

To recap, Affleck is almost definitely in the middle of a split with Jennifer Lopez, due to the fact that their relationship was, per “Page Six,” a “fever dream.” These two may have reunited 20 years after their first engagement and made us all believe in the power of love, but now they are spending their anniversary apart and walking around without wedding rings. It’s so depressing. Anyway, no one does divorce like our Benny boy, who, according to rumor and some visual evidence, got an enormous tattoo of a phoenix rising from the ashes the same year he split up with his last wife, Jennifer Garner. And, right on schedule — perhaps to celebrate his new $20 million bachelor lair — he dug up a statement-shoulder leather jacket and ventured out astride a flashy motorcycle. The message, to me, is coming through clearer than the skin on Affleck’s temples: He is getting a divorce.

At least he’s learned one lesson — unlike a large back tattoo, you can grow out a faux-hawk.

He complimented the hairstyle with some sunglasses, a leather jacket, dark jeans, and a Red Hot Chilli Peppers t-shirt. More photos showed him riding a blue motorcycle, which he rode around the city. 

The outing and the style change coincide with rumors suggesting his relationship with Jennifer Lopez is facing difficult times. Over the summer, the two have been photographed in different parts of the world, with Affleck remaining busy with work in Los Angeles and Lopez opting to spend time in various locations, including Europe and The Hamptons. Affleck has been working on "The Accountant 2," the sequel to the action film. He's been spotted spending plenty of time with his children with Jennifer Garner: Violet, 18, Fin, 15, and Samuel, 12. 

Lopez has stayed busy over the past couple of months. In recent weeks, she's been spotted in The Hamptons, where she's spent a lot of time with friends and family. She also celebrated her birthday with a "Bridgerton" themed birthday party. "Her summer isn't exactly what she originally had planned, but she's making the best of it. She's always grateful for family time," said a source to PEOPLE. 

The source said that her party was a great celebration and that Lopez had a great time with those closest to her. "She had a great weekend with family and friends," says the source. "She loves entertaining and enjoyed her birthday bash. She was in a happy mood," said the source.

Lopez and Affleck have yet to provide an update on their marriage. It appears like the two have been living separately over the past couple of months.
