Canada’s Brookfield is poised to make a landmark investment exceeding ₹50,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh, focusing on renewable energy projects. This ambitious proposal, expected to unfold over the next three to five years, would represent one of the largest foreign investments in the clean energy sector within India.

The Economic Times reports that Brookfield’s investment could result in the development of up to 8.66 gigawatts of wind and solar power assets through its Evren platform. This substantial commitment highlights Brookfield’s dedication to expanding its clean energy portfolio and reinforcing its position as a major player in global renewable energy.

On August 20, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu met with Brookfield’s top officials to discuss this potential investment. Naidu shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Met with Managing Director of Brookfield’s Renewable Power and Transition Group, Mr. Nawal Saini today. A leading investor in green initiatives, Brookfield has expressed a keen interest in investing in our State’s renewable energy sector, particularly in solar, wind, and rooftop energy. Andhra Pradesh has the potential to lead in sustainable energy and pave the way for a greener future.”

Brookfield’s Commitment to Clean Energy

Brookfield, a global investment firm managing assets worth over $1 trillion, has dedicated $102 billion to clean energy projects. This planned investment in Andhra Pradesh further underscores Brookfield’s commitment to advancing renewable energy and contributing to sustainable development.

Beyond Andhra Pradesh: Brookfield’s Continued Investment in India

In addition to the Andhra Pradesh project, Moneycontrol reports that Brookfield is exploring further investments in India. Data Infrastructure Trust is reportedly seeking to raise up to ₹6,666 crore from Brookfield, alongside Singapore’s GIC and the British Columbia Investment Management Corporation. Moreover, Brookfield is also preparing to invest approximately $500 million in Leap Green Energy, a Tamil Nadu-based clean energy solutions firm.

A Green Future for Andhra Pradesh

Brookfield’s proposed investment in Andhra Pradesh is a significant step towards a greener future for the state. The development of up to 8.66 gigawatts of wind and solar assets will not only provide clean energy but also contribute to economic growth and job creation. This ambitious project is a testament to the potential of renewable energy in India and its growing appeal to global investors.
