Matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League comes to a close on Wednesday, when a handful of Europe's top teams eye their second wins of the league phase.
Bayern Munich entered Matchday 2 atop the table and will take part in the headlining act of Wednesday's action against Aston Villa, who will host their first Champions League match in four decades. Though they are the favorites, they might be without Harry Kane, who picked up an ankle injury in Saturday's draw with Bayer Leverkusen and will have plenty of work to do when facing Villa's Ollie Watkins, who has four goals and three assists so far this season.
Elsewhere in Europe, reigning champions Real Madrid travel to Lille with Kylian Mbappe in the squad after he missed Sunday's draw at Atletico Madrid with a minor thigh injury. Liverpool, meanwhile, host their first European night since Arne Slot's hire by taking on Bologna and Juventus go to RB Leipzig in another competitive match to wrap up Matchday 2.

Completed matches
45'+3 The last scoreless game of the day changes course shortly before halftime as Dinamo Zagreb take the lead over Monaco. Sucic scores with an impressive strike, making Zagreb's first shot on goal of the day count.
45+1 Camavinga is called for a handball and after a VAR check, the penalty is given. David steps up to the spot to give Lille the lead over Rea Madrid and he scores, giving his side an unexpected advantage shortly before the break.
30' Sesko breaks the deadlock in Leipzig through a goal that technically starts with a save from Gulacsi. The hosts look to go forward really quick and Openda does the work of making a run down the left wing and then playing a perfect pass to Sesko, who races closer to goal and finishes off the chance with relative ease against Juventus.
23' Tzolis shoots from distance and scores to give Club Brugge the lead over Sturm Graz, notching arguably the best goal of the day so far. He also marked a milestone, scoring the 100th goal of the league phase.
13' Thanks to a poor moment out of the back for Atletico Madrid, they're now down a goal to Benfica. Akturkoglu receives the ball from Aursnes and slides the ball past Oblak for the game's opening goal.
11' The first goal of the later window of games goes Liverpool's way, with Mac Allister scoring for the first time this season. He creates the chance and then sends it Szoboszlai's way, with Salah becoming involved later and redirecting the ball back to Mac Allister for the finish.
11' Gonzalez drops to the ground and signals that he needs to come off, making him the second player to come off with an injury for Juventus in the early moments of the game. Conceicao comes on in his place.
7' Bremer has to come off with an undisclosed injury sustained while attempting to defend Openda, with Gatti coming on in his place. No word on the specifics of the issue yet, but it's not looking good for him.
Sturm Graz vs Club Brugge
Both teams eye their first win of the Champions League season after coming up empty-handed on Matchday 1. Here's a look at their lineups.
Sturm Graz starting XI: Scherpen, Johnston, Aiwu, Geyrhofer, Gazibegovic, Chukwuani, Yalcouye, Kiteishvili, Boving, Biereth, Camara
Club Brugge starting XI: Mignolet, Seys, Ordonez, Jashari, Mechele, De Cuyper, Olsen, Onyedika, Vanaken, Tzolis, Jutgle
Benfica vs Atletico Madrid
A few days after announcing his retirement from international soccer, Antoine Griezmann starts for Atletico Madrid in their game against Benfica. Both teams are coming off wins in Matchday 1 and could make a statement with another three points today. Here's the team news.
Benfica starting XI: Trubin, Bah, Araujo, Otamendi, Carreras, Aursnes, Luís, Kokcu, Di Maria, Pavlidis, Akturkoglu
Atletico Madrid starting XI: Oblak, Gimenez, Witsel, Mandava, Llorente, De Paul, Koke, Lino, Correa, Griezmann, Alvarez
Dinamo Zagreb vs Monaco
USMNT forward Folarin Balogun -- himself named to Mauricio Pochettino's first roster -- will start Monaco's clash at Dinamo Zagreb on the bench. Monaco notched the biggest surprise of Matchday 1 by beating a 10-man Barcelona, while Zagreb have much room for improvement after losing 9-2 to Bayern Munich two weeks ago. Zagreb are under new leadership for Matchday 2 -- manager Sergej Jakirovic was fired two days after that lopsided loss, and Nenad Bjelica is now in charge. Here's a look at both teams' lineups.
Dinamo Zagreb starting XI: Nevistic, Ristovski, Bernauer, Theophile-Catherine, Torrente, Ademi, Misic, Baturina, Petkovic, Baturina
Monaco starting XI: Kohn, Vanderson, Kehrer, Salisu, Henrique, Zakaria, Camara, Akliouche, Minamino, Golovin, Embolo
Feyenoord vs Girona
Feyenoord goalkeeper Wellenreuther saved a second half penalty from Mirovski -- the second missed penalty of the day -- but Girona find their equalizer in the 74th minute courtesy of van de Beek. That joy was shortlived, thoguh -- Krejci's own goal five minutes later means Feyenoord now have a 3-2 lead and are a few minutes away from their first Champions League win of the season.
RB Leipzig vs Juventus
Fresh off being named to Mauricio Pochettino's first USMNT squad, Weston McKennie starts a second Champions League game in a row for Juventus, though Tim Weah misses out completely. They eye a second win in Europe this season, but will have to beat a competitive RB Leipzig team to get there. Here are both teams' lineups.
RB Leipzig starting XI: Gulacsi, Geertruida, Orban, Lukeba, Raum, Baumgartner, Seiwald, Haidara, Simons, Openda, Sesko
Juventus starting XI: Di Gregorio, Savona, Kalulu, Bremer, Cambiaso, McKennie, Fagioli, Gonzalez, Koopmeiners, Yildiz, Vlahovic
Liverpool vs Bologna
Arne Slot has selected Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez to start Liverpool's first home European game of the season, all eyes on their second win of the competition, this time against Bologna. Here are both teams' lineups.
Liverpool starting XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Konate, van Dijk, Robertson, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz, Nunez
Bologna starting XI: Skorupski, Posch, Beukema, Lucumi, Miranda, Freuler, Orsolini, Moro, Urbanski, Ndoye, Dallinga
Lille vs Real Madrid
Endrick earns his first start for Real Madrid, lining up next to Vinicius Junior for today's trip to Lille. Kylian Mbappe, meanwhile, is back on the bench after missing Sunday's draw at Atletico Madrid.
Lille starting XI: Chevalier, Santos, Diakite, Alexsandro, Gudmundsson, Bakker, Zhegrova, Andre, Bouaddi, Cabella, David
Real Madrid starting XI: Lunin, Carvajal, Militao, Rudiger, Mendy, Valverde, Tchouameni, Camavinga, Bellingham, Endrick, Vinicius
Aston Villa vs Bayern Munich
The ankle injury that Harry Kane sustained in Bayern's draw with Leverkusen over the weekend won't get in the way of him starting today's big game, while his England teammate Ollie Watkins starts for Aston Villa as they host their first Champions League game in four decades. Here's a look at both teams' lineups.
Aston Villa starting XI: Martinez, Konsa, Carlos, Torres, Digne, Onana, Tielemans, Philogene, Rogers, Ramsey, Watkins
Bayern Munich starting XI: Neuer, Kimmich, Upamecano, Kim, Davies, Laimer, Pavlovic, Olise, Gnabry, Coman, Kane
A Look Ahead
Atalanta are now well on course to pick up their first win of the competition, taking a 3-0 lead in the 48th minute courtesy of Raoul Bellanova. A nice little batch of build-up play leads to Bellanova's light header near the goal line.
Atalanta are being rewarded for their dominance with a 2-0 lead at Shakhtar Donetsk, who have yet to take a shot in this game. Girona, meanwhile, may have much more of the ball but it's Feyenoord who are on top with a 2-1 advantage in Spain, scoring off their only two shots on target so far. Girona, though, have scored their fist-ever Champions League courtesy of David Lopez, which you can watch below.
Tuesday's action benefitted Europe's heavyweights, whose lopsided victories ensured there would be 32 goals scored across seven games to kick off Matchday 2. The onus will be on the big clubs in action today to keep the trend going, but for some the task will be easier than others. Look no further than Bayern Munich's trip to an in-form Aston Villa, who could create a competitive match whether or not Harry Kane plays a big role for the visitors. That's just one of a few compelling matchups that are on the schedule today, though, so stick around for live updates as Matchday 2 comes to a close.
