To those who thought Brat Summer would end as the seasons changed, get ready to usher in Brat Autumn (Bratumn?).
On Thursday, singer Charli XCX announced via social media that she will release a new version of her hit album Brat. The remix album, Brat and It’s Completely Different But Also Still Brat drops on October 11 and will have 16 tracks, five of which are previously released remixes. The two-disc release will also feature the 18-track deluxe version of Brat, titled Brat and It's the Same but There's Three More Songs So It's Not, which Charli released only three days after the original album.
Since the album’s release, Charli has dropped a number of remixes of some of the LP’s most popular songs and featuring a veritable who’s-who of alt-pop girlies. So far, the remixes include a new version of the album’s lead single “360” with Robyn and Yung Lean. On the much-buzzed remix of “girl so confusing” featuring Lorde, who was the subject of the original song, the two pop icons worked it out on the remix.
Charli XCX’s Remixes Have Been Exceedingly Queer
So far, the Brat remixes have also been exceedingly queer. After collabing with Robyn and Lorde, Charli worked with Oscar-winning singer Billie Eilish for a remix of the underwear-focused song “Guess,” which was accompanied by an extremely horny video. And, ahead of their 2024 Sweat tour, which is set to begin on Saturday in Detroit, Charli and Troye Sivan released a remix to her track “Talk Talk.”
The Latest Remix is a Collaboration With Troye Sivan
The avalanche of Charli XCX remixes continues! For months now, Charli has been dropping new versions of her Brat tracks with various guest-stars: Addison Rae, Robyn and Yung Lean, Lorde, Billie Eilish. Now, two days before Charli and Troye Sivan’s Sweat Tour is scheduled to kick off in Detroit, Charli and Sivan have shared the “Talk Talk” remix that Charli previewed a few days ago, and she’s also announced that her Brat remix album is coming out next month.
On Twitter this morning, Charli posted a link to the Spotify pre-save of her new Brat remix LP Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat. Presumably, that’s the new full-length “in the Bratosphere” that she was just talking about. The previously-released Brat remixes will all appear on the new joint, as well as 11 new tracks that we don’t have any details on yet. (The full Brat deluxe package has 34 tracks, which is a lot of Brat.)
As for the “Talk talk,” it’s a complete reworking of the original track that barely sounds anything like the original. The remix is a slamming house banger that doesn’t use the incandescent “Talk talk” hook but does have some murmured French and Spanish vocals Dua Lipa vocals on the intro. A. G. Cook and Hudson Mohawke produced the original “Talk talk” track, and the remix has production credits for both of them, as well as Zhone, Styalz Fuego, and NOVODOR. Nobody really talks about this remix, and it’s got none of the nervous vulnerability of the original “Talk talk.” Instead, this one is just about being really excited to fuck.
The Release Date for the Album is October 11, 2024
Brat summer is never over. After unleashing her “Talk talk featuring troye sivan” remix with her Sweat Tour collaborator this morning, Charli XCX has revealed she has a bunch more remixes in the archive, announcing a full Brat remix album.
Dubbed brat and it’s completely different but also still brat, the album is dropping Friday, October 11.
While a tracklist remains unconfirmed, the remix album will consist of 16 remixed tracks, stacking the remixes on top of the original album for a two-disk delivery. The LP includes the already released “360” with Robyn and Yung Lean, “Von Dutch” with A. G. Cook and Addison Rae, “Girl, So Confusing” with Lorde, “Guess” with Billie Eilish and, today’s new release, “Talk Talk” with Troye Sivan. Available to pre-save on all DSPs now, the other tracks are merely listed as “Track 1,” “Track 2,” etc.
News of brat and it’s completely different but also still brat arrives as Charli and Sivan kick off their joint Sweat Tour this Saturday, September 14 in Detroit with support from Shygirl. Stay tuned to Hypebeast for more updates as they become available, and stream “Talk talk featuring troye sivan” – the fifth track on the remix portion of the release – out everywhere now.
