Pedro Neto has called for the Blues to show their character and get back to winning ways in domestic competition against Newcastle United on Sunday.
The Portuguese winger was in the starting XI against Panathinaikos on Thursday as we made it two wins from two in the league stage of this season’s UEFA Conference League.
Neto also impressed from the bench in our last top-flight outing, which came away at leaders Liverpool last Sunday. That fixture signalled the start of a challenging domestic run for the Blues, with back-to-back matches against Newcastle – we also meet them in the Carabao Cup next week – followed by clashes with Manchester United and Arsenal in the league.
The winger has been pleased with the character displayed by the Blues this term and hopes for more of the same as we take on the Magpies at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
‘Our group is getting better every day, and what we did showed our character, our personality, our hard-work mentality,' the 24-year-old said. 'We want to continue with that.‘In the Premier League every game’s a test. So to go there [to Anfield], it was just another game, nothing more important or less important. It was a normal game like any other one. We went there with the personality we showed in other games, and that we will continue to show in every game.
Although now amid a fixture schedule against several Premier League sides with European ambitions, Neto says our approach must not change – something showcased at Anfield as we played on the front foot and enjoyed the larger share of possession.
‘Every game is important in the Premier League because you can play against the team that is first in the table and win and then play the team who are last and lose.
‘Of course, we have more difficult games, the games [people believe] are harder than the others, but we take every game the same because we know the difficulty that every team gives us. We study every team in every game, we know the difficulties that we will have.
Neto, who arrived at Chelsea this summer from Wolves, revealed his thoughts on the club’s mentality ahead of the Newcastle clash. He emphasized the team's commitment to constant improvement and the importance of a consistent mindset in every match, regardless of the opponent.
‘Our group is getting better every day, and what we did showed our character, our personality, our hard-work mentality. We want to continue with that,’ Neto explained. ‘In the Premier League every game’s a test. So to go there [to Anfield], it was just another game, nothing more important or less important. It was a normal game like any other one. We went there with the personality we showed in other games, and that we will continue to show in every game. It's what the people in the coaching staff have said to us. This is our mentality and we have to continue working hard if we want to be on the top.’
Neto’s words highlight a shift in mentality at Chelsea since last season. The Blues have shown a renewed sense of purpose and determination this season, particularly in their recent performance against Liverpool. This change in attitude is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the players and the coaching staff, and it is likely to be a key factor in Chelsea’s success this season.
Neto’s belief in the team’s ability to transform into a top-level team reflects the ambition and potential of this Chelsea squad. While they have faced some setbacks this season, the squad remains confident and determined to achieve great things. The upcoming matches against Newcastle, Manchester United, and Arsenal will be crucial tests for the Blues, and their performance in these games will provide a clear indication of their progress under their new manager.
Chelsea’s Mentality is Key to Success
The Blues’ mentality is crucial to their success this season, and Neto’s comments highlight the importance of a consistent approach throughout the season.
While every game in the Premier League is tough, Chelsea needs to show its character and fight in every match. The team's resilience and determination will be vital in the face of challenges, especially as they face a challenging schedule.
Pedro Neto’s Impact on Chelsea
Pedro Neto has arrived at Chelsea with a strong reputation, having performed well for Wolves. He is yet to fully establish himself as a regular in the side, but he has shown glimpses of his potential.
Neto’s performance against Liverpool and his assist against Panathinaikos indicate that he is capable of making a significant impact at Chelsea. He is a talented winger with a lot to offer, and he will be looking to build upon his recent performances and make a regular claim for a starting position.
Looking Ahead
The upcoming matches against Newcastle, Manchester United, and Arsenal will be crucial for Chelsea. These games will provide a chance for the Blues to test themselves against some of the best teams in the Premier League and demonstrate the progress they have made under their new manager.
The pressure will be on Chelsea to deliver positive results in these matches, and their ability to do so will depend on their commitment to their hard-working mentality and their determination to achieve success.
The coming weeks will be a crucial period for Chelsea, as they look to maintain their momentum and build upon the positive start they have made to the season.
