People around the country have patiently been waiting for NFL football to return. That time is finally here as it is game week. The Kansas City Chiefs are starting things off on Thursday night as they host the Baltimore Ravens in a collision to start the 2024 campaign. This is a rematch of the 2023 AFC Championship Game, which the Chiefs won 17-10. This will be a star-studded affair with superstar quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson linking up against one another. We also have two of the top tight ends in the league Travis Kelce and Mark Andrews taking the field. But besides that, The Chiefs have announced that another star will be singing the national anthem in Week 1. It has been announced that singer, songwriter, and actress Coco Jones will be singing the national anthem on Thursday night. The 26-year-old isn't new to this stage, as she's sung the national anthem in two other NFL games. The first came in 2013 when the St. Louis Rams squared off against the Chicago Bears. The most recent one took place last season when the Philadelphia Eagles played against the Los Angeles Rams during NFL Legends Weekend. Jones also comes from an NFL family. Her father, Mike Jones played in the league from 1994-1999 with the New England Patriots, St. Louis Rams, and Tennessee Titans. Her brother, Mike Jones Jr. also plays for the Atlanta Falcons. The stars will be out in Kansas City and one of them will be holding the microphone to start things off. The 17-10 rang loud and clear at the M&T Bank Stadium. The Kansas City Chiefs entered another Super Bowl as they outplayed the Baltimore Ravens on January, 28. The Ravens fans resonated with Lamar Jackson’s statement when he said, “We’re mad…We’re going to build, this offseason, get better, grind and try to be in this position again, but on the other side.” And the moment is finally within striking distance. The Chiefs will once again take on the Ravens on September 5, 2024, and this time, Arrowhead Stadium will light up with colors of anticipation and excitement. Like each season, the tradition of singing the national anthem before the NFL kickoff will commence the competitive and thrilling 2024 season. Last year, it was Natalie Grant who took the stand and serenaded the whole nation as her voice echoed on millions of television sets. Her three favorite things? “This country, our anthem and football.” While Grant’s performance was amazing, it’s a matter of the past now. Who’s going to take the stage this year? Well, this year, the honor goes to the American singer-songwriter and actress, Coco Jones, who will be under the spotlight and on every camera when she starts performing the national anthem. But this isn’t her first rodeo. In fact, she’s performed the national anthem in the NFL on many occasions and once in WrestleMania XL too. She performed the anthem back in 2013 when the St. Louis Rams went against the Chicago Bears but one of her recent recitals on the football field came last year when the Los Angeles Rams went against the Philadelphia Eagles during the NFL Legends Weekend. The singer comes from a very interesting family because her father Mike Jones is also a former NFL player. He’s not only an NFL defensive tackle, but he also played in two Super Bowls (XXXIV and XXXI), however, he lost both games. One of his most iconic plays, “The Tackle,” came when he stopped the Titans receiver Kevin Dyson just one yard short of scoring a potential game-winning touchdown. Coco’s brother, Mike Jones Jr., plays for the Atlanta Falcons as well. But there’s a lot more to look forward to in the 2024 NFL kick-off. One of the most important things is the world’s Largest Tailgate. The hour-long show is supposed to be the highlight of the event outside the football field. Actor and comedian Rob Riggle and Hayley Lewis will perform two sets of shows in the parking lots of GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. The event at the Truman Sports Complex will be crawling with celebs, games and you can even stream it too! But coming back to the performances, the Lenexa Fire Department will present the colors and the pregame flyover will be done by a B-2 Stealth Bomber out of Whiteman Air Force Base’s 509 Bomb Squadron. The parking lot gates will open at 2:30 PM and all games to the Arrowhead Stadium open at 5 PM. The Chiefs are also doing a banner ceremony to honor the reigning Super Bowl Champions and the Hunt Family will join the event as well. Are you ready for the action to begin? Watching Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson pick up where they left off should be exhilarating.
