Coronation Street fans have said 'hold on' after they were left 'flabbergasted' by the show's latest move as they were given news about Bethany Platt. As viewers of the ITV soap know, Bethany has headed to Turkey for work. Last week, viewers saw Debbie Webster inform Bethany that a friend of hers is the CEO of a cosmetic surgery company and she was looking for someone to write an advertorial on their new facility in Turkey. After initially turning it down, her boyfriend Daniel Osbourne convinced her to change her mind. However, during Monday night's episode (September 23) it was revealed that things had gone wrong for Bethany as she decided to go under the knife for liposuction, leaving her fighting for her life in intensive care.
Daniel was the one who received the call before he informed Bethany's mum Sarah, who devastated to discover her passport did have enough time valid on it to get her into Turkey. Daniel ended up having to make the trip alone, with Sarah promising to follow behind once she got a new emergency passport.
After heading off as quickly as he could, Daniel was later seen walking through an airport in Istanbul - with Corrie even updating one of its post-ad break shots to show the airport's exterior instead of the usual Weatherfield-based image. And it quickly caught Corrie fans' attention on social media. @lbozza17 said: "Nice stock footage of Istanbul airport there #corrie." @Rurz commented: "Ooh! #Corrie on location? Just seen Istanbul Airport on the ad bumper!"
@Dee_Cee95x wrote: "A plane shot and then a shot of Istanbul airport in the sunset? When was the last time Corrie was outside Manchester?! #Corrie." @RyanTheSoapking posted: "OMG the airport at Istanbul has been shown on #Corrie." @MatthewMitt6 shared: "Oh excellent stock footage of a plane landing and Istanbul airport #corrie." @TVoyager added: "That airport in Turkey looks just like the footage of plane at sunset at LA airport #Corrie."
SARAH Platt has been left devastated as she learned Bethany has been admitted to ICU in Coronation Street. Fans of the long-running ITV soap know the character - played by Lucy Fallon - has been in Turkey for a PR job. During tonight's show Coronation Street viewers watched as Daniel and Daisy shared a moment after her split from Ryan. But as Daniel's phone continued to ring, he was unaware it was medics calling from Turkey to say Bethany had been rushed to hospital. Down as her next of kin, Daniel then rushed to Underworld to tell Sarah her daughter was in a critical condition.
But as the pair rushed back to pack a bag and book flights, Sarah realised her passport was due to expire, meaning she wouldn't be allowed board the flight. Daniel travelled solo in a desperate attempt to find out if Bethany was OK. While Sarah was consoled by Audrey and David, she snapped at the pair in distress at contemplating what had happened to Bethany. The episode ended as Daniel reached the hospital and found an English-speaking doctor to relay Bethany's condition to Sarah. Placing the phone on speaker, the doctor said: "She has sepsis." "Why Daniel, why is she having surgery, is she ok," Sarah interrupted.
She was left stunned as the doctor told her Bethany was in intensive care with a perforated bowl, having had botched liposuction. Before the credits rolled the character, played by Tina O'Brien, said: "I don't understand, liposuction, why, why would she be having that done.
Coronation Street airs on ITV1 and ITVX.
Corrie has said goodbye to several cast members this year. Let's break down who's left the famous soap:
Eliza Woodrow (Savannah Kunyo) has said farewell to Corrie to start a new life in Germany. The youngster moved to live with her dad Dom Everett, who went back on the £10,000 bribe Eliza's grandfather Stu had offered to keep him out of her life. Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) will bow out of the soap this summer when he loses his fight with motor neurone disease (MND) in tragic scenes. After being diagnosed last year, the fan favourite was devastated to learn he only had months left to live. Viewers know he is planning to take his own life to end his suffering. Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) departed the cobbles after being offered the opportunity of a lifetime to study in America. Though she struggled to decide with her stepdad Paul’s impending death from MND, she was convinced she had to live her life to the full. Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) has struggled with the sudden departure of his father Peter from the cobbles. The Weatherfield legend left his family and loved ones behind on Boxing Day, 2023, when his wife Carla Connor encouraged him to travel around the world with a friend. Simon's been on a downward spiral ever since and his exit could end in tragedy. Alya Nazir is set to leave the cobbles as actress Sair Khan prepares to go on maternity leave ahead of the birth of her first child. It looks likely she'll be heading to Dublin after securing a lucrative new job, leaving her colleague and fling Adam Barlow behind. Show stalwart Sue Cleaver, who plays Eileen Grimshaw, is taking a break to star in the Sister Act The Musical UK tour. She will be back filming in May once her dates on the tour come to an end. Her character left the Street after her son Jason broke his back after falling off a moped in Asia.

Corrie favourite Bethany Platt faces a horrifying health scare this week after undergoing botched cosmetic surgery in Turkey. Bethany chooses to undergo liposuction on the trip, but things take a turn as she suffers from complications in the wake of the surgery. Her family are left shocked when she returns home to Weatherfield and reveals the full extent of the seemingly-impromptu trip. But the liposuction is only the tip of the iceberg as our interview with actress Lucy Fallon uncovers...
Magazine+: What was your initial reaction when you found out about Bethany’s upcoming storyline?
Lucy: I was pleased that they have trusted me with it because it’s an important storyline, but it does come with quite a lot of pressure and responsibility to get it right because this happens to real life people. The storyline is also incredibly important as there’s countless horror stories out there of people talking about their experiences of cosmetic surgery abroad so I really hope this storyline can make people rethink going abroad for cosmetic surgery.
Sarah (Tina O’Brien) at Bethany’s bedside after her op goes wrong
Mag+: Do you think she had any intention to get liposuction from the get-go? Or was it spontaneous?
Lucy: I think it was a spur of the moment decision. She didn’t state she was having liposuction or any type of surgery on her travel insurance, so I do think it was something she just decided once out there, which she will forever regret. I do also think she may have been talked into it when she went out there.
Mag+: What do you think drove Bethany to make that decision?
Lucy: I think her confidence and self esteem has always been really low especially after everything that happened with Nathan and the grooming storyline. With her insecurities, I think she’s always had it in her to do something like this. She’s also constantly comparing herself to Daisy and has been feeling particularly bad thinking that Daniel might want to be with Daisy instead of her, so I think she wanted to do something that would ultimately make her feel more confident, but without realising the danger she was putting herself in.
Mag+: We heard that Sarah is the one who has to break the news to her that she’ll have a stoma bag for life, and that her insurance is void as she never declared her surgery.
Lucy: Bethany takes it really badly because obviously it wasn’t her intention to get the surgery in the first place so now that she has not only affected her own life, but severely affected everyone’s life around her. She’s going to feel horrifically guilty. Now that the pressure is on the Platts to raise the funds to pay for her medical bills and get her home, she’s just going to feel like it’s the end of the world.
Mag+: So, will the stoma bag affect her relationship with Daniel?
Lucy: Definitely. At first, she’s embarrassed and worried about being intimate. It’s made her feel even more insecure than she ever felt before. Daniel is a really supportive boyfriend so I think with him trying to support and encourage Bethany, she will ultimately just push him away because of her insecurities.
Mag+: How does Bethany actually feel about everything?
Lucy: She doesn’t want anyone to know what’s happened to her and how she’s ended up with the stoma bag. Obviously, she feels it’s entirely self-inflicted, which it is, but of course she wasn’t to know this was going to happen and go disastrously wrong which is why she feels humiliated.

Mag+: Did you know anything about stomas before filming this storyline?
Lucy: I knew a little bit because I had seen more and more people talk about it on TV and social media. There’s quite a lot of pages and people on TikTok who promote stoma positivity which is great. So I did know a little bit, but not as much as I do now.
Mag+: How did you prepare for a storyline like this?
Lucy: We worked closely with Colostomy UK who have been incredible. I had a meeting with two people from the charity who spoke about what life was like for them after getting a stoma fitted, their struggles, what has changed and what hasn’t changed, which was really helpful listening to everything they had to say. As I also mentioned before, I’ve been doing a lot of my own research on social media like TikTok where you can actually watch people changing their stoma bags and hear about their experiences too.
Mag+: Can we ask, what will the next couple of months look like for Bethany?
Lucy: The next couple of months are definitely going to be really challenging for her. I think her biggest struggle will be coming to terms with the fact that this is something she’s done to herself. Hopefully in time, which I know she will, she’ll start to accept what’s happened and realise that having a stoma hasn’t actually affected her life as much as she probably thought it would, but I do think it will take a couple of setbacks and bumps in the road to eventually get there.

During the latest instalment of Coronation Street, ITV viewers were all wondering the same thing as they realised one Weatherfield resident hasn't been seen for a while
Coronation Street viewers watched Sarah Platt (played by Tina O'Brien) rush off to Turkey after her daughter Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) had a botched surgery during the latest visit to the cobbles. As Wednesday's (September 25) episode kicked off, ITV fans watched as Sarah's concerned family remained in Weatherfield to look after her young son Harry. However, as David Platt (Jack Shepherd) and his grandma Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) spoke about the situation unfolding, one family member was noticeably absent. Many people were quick to take to Twitter as they questioned where Gail Platt (Helen Worth) was.
It was confirmed the actress was bowing out of the ITV soap later this year after 50 years on the cobbles. Although with her missing from scenes at such an important moment for the Platts, fans fear she's already left.

One person said: "Notice how super nurse Aggie & Gail have completely gone missing from #Corrie"
Another asked: "Has Gail now finished? I thought she was going to have a big storyline?" One person wrote: "Can anyone remind me where Gail is supposed to be??"
Someone else asked: "Where is Gail?" Unimpressed with her absence, one fan tweeted: "Bethany is literally dying and they still can’t stick Gail into a scene?" While another pondered: "Has Gail left already?"
When it was announced in June that Helen would be bowing out of her role as Gail, it was teased viewers would see a major storyline unfold. ITV shared the actress would be filming her departing scenes in July, with the scenes expected to air later this year. The soap star said: "This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world.
“I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding.”
“I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in and week out and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew.
“The past 50 years have flown by and I don't think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.”
Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV from 8pm
Bethany Platt received life-changing news after her lipo surgery went seriously wrong and nearly died.
Her mum Sarah Platt and boyfriend Daniel Osbourne rushed out of the country to Turkey to see Bethany and be by her side during her traumatic experience.
Meanwhile, on Coronation Street, David and Shona Platt were involved in the action as they kept in touch with Sarah and talked about paying Bethany's medical bills.
But viewers noticed Bethany's gran, Gail Platt, was no where to be seen.
Taking to X - formerly known as Twitter - one said: "Where's Gail when her granddaughter's fighting for her life?
"It's a shame we haven't seen much of her over the last few months when she's meant to be leaving the show at the end of the year.
"Is it just me or does anyone else feel her exit's going to be really rushed? #Corrie."
Another added: "Bethany is literally dying and they still can’t stick Gail into a scene?"
A third penned: "Can anyone remind me where Gail is supposed to be?? #Corrie."
Bethany was left reeling after she was told that she would need to wear a stoma for life.
As Bethany adapts to her new life, will Gail be around to support her?
Upcoming spoilers have teased that things will be worse for the Platt family after Bethany contracts sepsis. And Gail will decide to do something drastic in order to get the funds to help Bethany.
Gail has been on our telly screens for half a century. However the actress, Helen Worth, has quit the cobbles. In a statement Helen said: “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world.

The ITV soap had already filmed Gail's exit storyline with her character's former lover Martin Platt - played by Sean Wilson. However, these scenes have been scrapped after Sean was called into a meeting with ITV execs last month and abruptly axed. Soap bosses declined to give any explanation, insisting that the 59-year-old had “stepped down for personal reasons”. A source previously told us: "A lot of people at Corrie didn’t know Sean had gone. Whatever it is, lawyers are involved because very senior soap bosses are not allowed to discuss it.” Sean has broken his silence - as he took to social media to thank fans for their support. Sharing a snap of a light-up 'love' sign, he said: "Thanks for all the love xxx." Soap bosses have remained tight lipped when coming up with a new storyline for Gail. The circumstances of the character's exit remains to be seen. A for sale sign at her house hints that she will be moving away from Weatherfield for good, and a new family may be moving in, but who?
