We last saw Tracy when she departed Weatherfield for pastures new in Spain with her retired footballer boyfriend Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn).
The two first crossed paths when he was employed at No. 1 in his new capacity as a painter and decorator, and before long he was dipping his brush in another man’s pot…
When the truth was revealed, Tracy broke Steve’s heart and ended their marriage because she was finding it boring.
After a brief chance of a reunion, Steve ruined his chances by burning a letter Tommy had sent Tracy, inviting her to move abroad with him. She quickly accepted his offer and jetted off for sunnier climes.
In the meantime, her daughter Amy (Elle Mulvaney) has been left to manage her florists, whilst adoptive dad Ken (William Roache) took a nasty fall and has had to employ Cassie as his carer.
Meanwhile, Steve has had a string of unsuccessful dates and its blissfully unaware that Cassie has taken a shine to him.
Earlier this week, she dolled herself up for a night of classical music at the park, assuming that it was a date for them both – but Steve actually wanted him to take Ken.
Tonight, to everyone’s surprise, Cassie opened up the front door and was met with a returning Tracy.
Assuming that she was now coupled up with Steve, Tracy told him that although he was ‘desperate’ he could ‘do better than the local druggy’.
Ouch!
A cat fight broke out between the women, as Steve watched on in despair.
But why exactly is Tracy back?
She seemed to be keeping those answers close to her chest, as when Ken asked her how things were with Tommy she was very quick to brush off his concerns and say everything was fine.

Tracy also told him that she would stick around and care for him, and was dismayed when he said he’d rather employ Cassie.
Later, word reached Mary Taylor (Patti Clare) that her bestie was back in Weatherfield and looked forward to catching up. Asking about Tommy, Tracy assured her that things were good, but something tells us that she may be twisting the truth…

Get us in your feed The real reason for Coronation Street star Tracy Barlow’s return has been ‘revealed’.
Tracy (Kate Ford) said her goodbyes to the cobbles in April following her affair with lover Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn). Tracy ended up splitting from husband Steve (Simon Gregson) and abruptly left to start a new life in Spain with Tommy.
Since her exit, a heartbroken Steve has appeared to move on - with him going on several dates over the past few months. He has also been growing close to Cassie (Claire Sweeney) - who is now the carer for Tracy’s dad Ken Barlow (William Roache).
Meanwhile, Tracy and Steve’s daughter, Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) has found herself involved in the harrowing cult storyline.
As fans will recall, Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) has been lured in by the mysterious “self-help” group, led by sinister Rowan (Emrhys Cooper).

And in the past few weeks, Leanne has recruited Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) to join the group. Unbeknownst to Amy and Leanne though, the group is after Amy’s cash savings.
And this week, Tracy made her shock return - much to the delight of fans. However, she was not too impressed to see Cassie acting as Ken’s carer and the pair clashed straight away.
What’s more, Tracy even claimed she would take on the role of his carer from now on - much to Ken and Cassie’s shock.
And while many fans reckon Tracy is back to help Amy amid The Institute ordeal, other viewers reckon Tracy has something sinister up her sleeve for her father.
Rushing to social media, fans claimed she’s returned to try and get her hands on Ken’s recent £50k win. On X, someone said: “Has Tracy heard Ken's come into Money too. Double cups of Tea.”
A second added: “I'm wondering if Tracy has come back cos she found out about Ken's recent windfall? Imagine both her & Cassie trying to swindle him!”
A third penned: “so Tracy's staying for a while & Cassie looked like she sees her chances of getting her hands on Ken's cash disappearing.”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
