Costco Canada has announced another yogurt recall, marking the second such recall in two weeks. This time, the recall applies to Kirkland Signature Probiotic Yogurt, sold in 24-packs containing 100-gram containers, and purchased between September 3, 2024, and September 19, 2024.

Danone Canada, the manufacturer, is recalling the product because it may contain yeast that could make individuals with a compromised immune system ill. However, the food safety risk is listed as "low" because the yeast isn't known to grow in refrigerated temperatures.

Consumers who have purchased the Kirkland Signature Probiotic Yogurt are advised not to consume it. Instead, they should return it to a Costco warehouse for a full refund.

The affected products have "best before" dates of October 18, 20, and 22.

This latest recall comes just two weeks after the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a recall on Kirkland Signature brand Greek Yogurt due to mold.

The affected product in the previous recall was the 24 x 100-gram pack of Kirkland Signature Greek yogurt, with a UPC number of 0 96619 22215 5 and a best-before date of August 10, 2024. The item was distributed in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan.

While the CFIA deemed the microbial contamination in the Greek yogurt as "non-harmful" based on quality and spoilage, Costco has taken a proactive approach in issuing these recalls to ensure consumer safety.

The recent recalls highlight the importance of checking food labels and best-before dates, especially when purchasing products from large retailers like Costco.

Costco Canada has a history of issuing recalls, with previous incidents involving various products, including frozen food items, snacks, and other grocery staples. The company typically works closely with the CFIA and other relevant agencies to ensure the safety of its products and to address any potential concerns.
