Daisy Edgar-Jones has quickly established herself as someone to watch, not just on screen but on the red carpet too. With the help of stylist Dani Michelle, the actor pulled off one of the most sartorially successful press tours of this year, promoting her summer blockbuster Twisters with a flurry of cyclone-themed outfits. Her storm of looks briefly ceased after the movie’s run ended—at least up until her appearance yesterday at the Toronto Film Festival.
Stepping out for the world premiere of her film On Swift Horses, Edgar-Jones embodied elegance in a sky-blue Gucci gown. The garment’s airy pleated fabric hit the floor, somewhat disguising a pair of strappy white heels, although the ensemble’s sheerness revealed a matching blue romper worn underneath. A daring neckline plunged nearly to the actor’s belly button in a deep V-shape, while an asymmetrical necktie flowed over her right arm with each gust of wind.
Edgar-Jones sparingly accessorized the whimsical gown, instead choosing to highlight its color with coordinating makeup. A powdery blue eyeshadow was placed at the inner corners of her eyes, while fluttery lashes and a clear lip gloss offered a more natural glam. She wore her highlighted brown hair in a half-up, half-down style, allowing a pair of chunky gold ear cuffs to peek out from her ‘do.
Later in the night, the actor posed with co-star Jacob Elordi, who brought his own glamour to the carpet in an olive green suit. Underneath, he wore a white button-down—generously unbuttoned to showcase a beaded necklace—as well as a pair of patent black leather dress shoes. As Elordi posed with Edgar-Jones, they shared quite a few laughs and intimate glances, feeding into their character’s chemistry.
Based on Shannon Pufahl’s 2019 book of the same name, On Swift Horses is a 1950s drama that follows newlyweds Muriel (Edgar-Jones) and Lee (Will Poulter) who are beginning a new life when he returns from the Korean War. Their relationship is upended, however, by the arrival of Lee’s younger brother, Julius (Elordi).
It’s no secret that Daisy Edgar-Jones has a proclivity for sheer clothing. From see-through LBDs to peek-a-boo two-piece sets, the actor has proven time and again that she’s not afraid to show a little skin — even when her entire body is covered.
Though her sheer obsession began during the Twisters press tour earlier this year, the 26-year-old seemed to confirm her love affair with the trend is still going strong at the premiere of her latest film, On Swift Horses.
While promoting her new film at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 7, Edgar-Jones was spotted wearing yet another sheer dress that was equal parts demure and mindful. The gown, designed by Gucci, boasted a stunning baby blue shade and featured a loose-fitting silhouette that draped over her body ever so casually. Underneath the dress was a bodycon romper for increased coverage, though her legs on full display through the see-through material.
The garment also featured a playful pleated texture that gave the flow-y dress even more movement, and a seriously plunging neckline that exposed her cleavage. To complete the look, the British star donned a matching sheer cape atop the ensemble that covered her right arm and chest.
As for the rest of the ‘fit, the Normal People actor kept her accessories to a minimum with strappy white stilettos that just barely peeped out from underneath the floor-length gown, and a pair of gold ear cuffs that were mostly covered by her half-up, half-down hairdo.
One could argue that kicking off the press tour with the Gucci gown was intentional, as it appeared to be the spiritual successor of the Chloé ensemble Edgar-Jones wore while promoting Twisters in New York City this summer. Sure, the original outfit was a bit more casual, and the Gucci gown lacked the same dramatic ruffle detailing, but the two looks share more similarities than differences. The sheer fabric, the billowy silhouette, the pastel blue shade — the respective press ‘fits are practically sisters.
If her look at the TIFF premiere is any indication, it’s fair to say the On Swift Horses press tour could give the Twisters promotional cycle a run for its money.
Daisy Edgar-Jones has already had a blockbuster year with Twisters, the critically acclaimed hit summer 2024 movie release, and now she’s looking ahead to her new drama with Euphoria star Jacob Elordi, On Swift Horses. Edgar-Jones and Elordi have now had a sweet moment on the red carpet, but I really do have so many questions about the plunging neckline of her dress.
On Swift Horses (which is a noir-ish LGBTQ+ romantic drama that’s getting pretty good reviews) recently had its premiere during the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, and the film brought the stars out for the red carpet. Daisy Edgar-Jones and Jacob Elordi play in-laws in the new movie, and from the looks of them hanging out at the event, they may have formed a real bond while on set:
Awww! Now, you’re probably wondering about the sheer confection of a gown that the Tom Cruise crush-having Edgar-Jones is wearing, seeing as how you don’t get a full look at the front in that hug-centric photo. Well, hold on to your bra-less boobies, folks!
I’m all for rocking the sheer dress look like Halle Berry did on the red carpet recently, or even going with something in a pretty sheer two-piece on the street like Dakota Johnson for whomever is comfy donning such an ensemble. That leaves me with no queries. However, when I see a neckline that’s J. Lo in the green Grammys dress-adjacent I’m always left with so many questions. Seriously, just look:
There look to be straps on the gown of the potential Normal People Season 2 star, but it still appears as if any breeze would have just exposed her bosoms completely. Is she taped into the dress? If so, how do we not see a hint of that, considering that the fabric is so filmy and ethereal that it absolutely seems like tape of any thickness would show through?
She seems to have gone without additional boob covering (fabulous; let those puppies air out), so there’s a bit of a lining or something making the fabric of the bodice a bit less sheer than the rest of the outfit. Is it a bodysuit, or just more thinly draped fabric and a panty? Having a bodysuit underneath that’s connected to the neckline should make the whole thing sturdier, but I’m not a dress-maker or a person who even sews, so who knows?

The talented lady (who trained for Twisters as buddy Paul Mescal trained for the upcoming Gladiator II) also appears to have not a care in the world, which I guess is standard whenever opting for a sheer dress that also shows off lots of cleave. Am I the only one who would have looked at least a little nervous? Oh, well, I suppose that’s why stars like Edgar-Jones can easily hit the red carpet at their utmost gorgeous and unbothered, while writers like me have to remember to put on pants before leaving home.
