Fans and talent have used many analogies to compare WWE and AEW in an attempt to explain why each company brings something different to the table. Pepsi and Coke, the NFL and the AFL, or Michael Bay and David Fincher have all been used to compare the two wrestling promotions. Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Darby Allin used music to make a comparison.
During an interview on Busted Open Radio, Darby Allin did his best to explain the differences between the two companies using music. The former TNT Champion said that while WWE is like Taylor Swift, AEW has more in common with Slayer.
“If people are going to compare the two companies, WWE and AEW, I like to put it as a music reference. WWE is like Taylor Swift and AEW is like Slayer. Taylor Swift can sell more records, but that doesn’t mean Slayer doesn’t have a huge following.
Our brand of music is a little more intense and violent, and we don’t have to change anything. We don’t have to try to sell the same records as Taylor Swift. We’re kind of in our own world. That’s where I like to compare the two things. You can watch All Out and it can be a little offensive, but I live to offend people,”
Allin is set to face Jon Moxley at AEW Dynamite Grand Slam. The winner will be the number one contender for the AEW World Title.
Both AEW and WWE promote and produce professional wrestling, but their brands couldn’t be more different. While WWE trades on decades of familiarity with fans and “sports entertainment,” AEW is more blood, thunder, and all-out violence.
Back in the ring, Darby Allin is set to square off against Jon Moxley at Dynamite Grand Slam in a match with huge championship ramifications. Back in July, Allin won the chance to face the World Champion at Grand Slam, but after Jon Moxley’s attack on title holder Bryan Danielson at All Out, that changed. With Moxley suggesting Danielson won’t be back in time, he challenged Allin to a match instead, getting him to put his World Title shot on the line.
Despite Moxley claiming Danielson wouldn’t be fit for Grand Slam, the World Champion is due to face Nigel McGuinness at the event. You can find the full card for AEW Dynamite Grand Slam below.
Darby Allin's Analogy: Does It Hold Water?
Darby Allin’s comparison is not without merit. WWE, with its emphasis on spectacle and mainstream appeal, does share some similarities with Taylor Swift’s pop music. Both are known for their polished productions, catchy tunes, and broad appeal. However, AEW, with its emphasis on hardcore wrestling and a more rebellious attitude, does bear resemblance to Slayer’s heavy metal sound. Both are known for their raw energy, intense performances, and dedicated fanbase. While Taylor Swift’s music might reach a larger audience, Slayer has a fiercely loyal following who appreciates their unique brand of music. The comparison of WWE and AEW to Taylor Swift and Slayer is an intriguing one, highlighting the different styles of the two promotions.
Taylor Swift vs. Slayer: A Clash of Styles
Taylor Swift and Slayer represent two distinct ends of the musical spectrum. Taylor Swift, with her pop-infused country sound, caters to a wide audience, while Slayer, with their aggressive thrash metal, appeals to a more niche fanbase. This dichotomy mirrors the differences between WWE and AEW. WWE, with its emphasis on entertainment and family-friendly content, draws a broader audience, while AEW, with its more hardcore and edgy approach, appeals to a more devoted fanbase who appreciates its more hardcore, violent, and intense style. The comparison between these two musical giants captures the essence of the rivalry between WWE and AEW.
WWE vs. AEW: A Battle for Fans
The wrestling world is currently experiencing a period of intense competition between WWE and AEW, with each company vying for the attention of fans. This competition extends beyond the ring, with both promotions constantly trying to outdo each other with their programming, events, and talent. The two companies offer different experiences to fans. While WWE has long been known for its polished production, captivating storylines, and established stars, AEW has carved its niche with a more hard-hitting, action-packed style that appeals to hardcore wrestling fans. The battle for fans will continue to unfold as both WWE and AEW strive to dominate the wrestling landscape.
The Future of Wrestling
The rivalry between WWE and AEW has breathed new life into the wrestling industry. The emergence of AEW has provided fans with an alternative to WWE, fostering competition and innovation. The wrestling landscape is constantly evolving, and it will be interesting to see how the two promotions continue to compete for the attention of fans in the years to come. It remains to be seen whether AEW can truly challenge WWE’s dominance, but the rivalry has already had a significant impact on the wrestling industry. The future of wrestling is full of possibilities, and the ongoing competition between WWE and AEW promises to be a thrilling ride for fans.
