This Morning presenter Dermot O'Leary is taking on a new role this year as the ITV star is set to feature in Netflix's new festive film. During Friday's instalment of the show, Alison announced the exciting news to viewers.
As a mock-up trailer was played, fans learnt the new film is being created by Richard Curtis, who was behind Love Actually and Four Weddings and a Funeral. With music from Ed Sheeran, The film will also star the likes of Succession's Brian Cox, Jodie Whittaker and Bill Nighy. Alison commented: "Dermot O'Leary, genuinely is in a Hollywood movie, a blockbuster for Christmas!"
Informing viewers that the film called That Christmas, will be available to watch from December 4, Alison made Dermot stand up and give a bow. While the crew gave him a huge round of applause and cheered, Dermot was asked more about the role he has in the animated flick. He said: "I play, the part of Mr Chop, it's some of my finest work."
This Morning played a sneak peek at Dermot's character as he could be heard yelling at another character. The ITV star said: "Thanks everyone! it means an awful lot to me, thanks."
Alison replied: "Unbelievable. I'm so so happy. Derot has bagged himself a role in the Netflix big Christmas animation this year, That Christmas. Don't miss it! I'm in the presence of greatness."
However, it's not just Dermot who has taken to other ventures away from their role on the ITV show. In September, fan-favourite Josie Gibson revealed she'd be taking a break from the programme to focus on her solo project with Channel 5. Delving into the realm of luxury travel, the three-part series called The First Class Travel Show is set to air next year. She told the Express: "I'm very grateful for This Morning and everything they've helped me with because they grew me as a presenter. I should be around at Christmas on the [This Morning] sofa, so then I will get back on the road and try to make it all work as much as I can."
Usually when it's half-term, regular hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley take a step back from the programme as fans often see Josie and Craig Doyle take the reigns. Although with Josie not expected back until the festive season, viewers will have to wait to see who will be taking over as another half-term looms. In recent months, This Morning has seen a rotation of presenters, such as Alison Hammond, Rylan Clark, Sian Welby, and Rochelle Humes.
This Morning continues weekdays on ITV from 10am.
