NFL fans have become convinced that they have found the burner account for Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson on X as he faces tons of mounting criticism.
The account @LeroyBickers4, under the name Leroy Bickerstaff, does not follow a single account and has exclusively posted positive things about Watson.
There has never been more pressure on Watson to perform, after the Browns let go Joe Flacco, who led the team to a playoff berth last season after Watson suffered a season-ending injury.
Those calling for Watson's replacement only got more fuel on Sunday, after a dismal performance against the Cowboys, where he only had 169 passing yards and two interceptions.
Here are a few examples of posts from 'Bickerstaff'.
'If 4 had a tackle like Trent Williams he’d be able to show his greatness… 4 can’t succeed when he’s got no chance back there.'
'Yup but we gon come on here and blame 4 when it’s the offense as a whole… give 4 no chance at success when he’s backed up like this every time.'
'You don’t know me fool go make a frozen meal or sum.'
The account in question has over 1,700 followers as of Tuesday night and is steadily growing as more fans become convinced it is Watson behind the avatar-less user.
In 2022, Watson signed a 5-year, $230million contract with Browns, and has not delivered on that huge money amount, part of the reason Cleveland fans are agitated with him.
The possible revelation comes after Monday's news that Watson is being sued for more than $1million after being accused of sexual assaulting a woman in Texas four years ago.
The Mystery of Leroy Bickerstaff
Things in Cleveland seem to go from bad to worse. After the Browns' devastating loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1, fans are convinced that Deshaun Watson created a Twitter burner account under pseudonym Leroy Bickerstaff.
If Bickerstaff is not Watson, he is Watson's biggest fan.
Bickerstaff's tweets were picked up by Outkick and detailed as follows:
"4 does nothing but put his blood sweat and tears into this team and this how yall treat him. I see why Bron left twice. 4 gotta get outta town and continue greatness somewhere else."
"No protection. Sorry play calling. Deshaun did all he could today he's the furtherest thing from the problem."
"4 got the respect of his teammates and that's all that matter...nobody care what the fools on the app got to say about a man they don't know."
"Guys in the locker room got 4s back all day long... it's yall that never played the sport and don't know 4 like that coming on here and blaming 4 for not succeeding in a impossible situation."
"And we still gonna sit here and act like 4 don't still got it. Pressured on damn near every drop back and 4 still standing in and delivering dots in the 4th. If that ain't heart ikd what is."
This is not the first time fans have suspected that Watson had a burner account. Last September after the Steelers loss, fans thought he created an account with the handle @Gainsvillesown believed to be named after Watson's home of Gainsville, Georgia.
Is It Really a Burner Account?
Burner accounts, another civil suit, and poor play on Sunday have made Browns fans lose their minds, and it's only Week 2 of the 2024 season. It's a long season ahead so hopefully the team can somehow get back on track.
So my buddy Matt, who has his ear to ground on all things Cleveland, tipped me off yesterday that we may have a Deshaun Watson burner on our hands. Initially I thought Matt was crazy, simply because Deshaun Watson is worth $230,000,000 whether he wins us a Super Bowl, makes a Pro Bowl, or plays like he has for the last 3 years fucking shit. So the point is: why would Deshaun Watson need to create a fake Twitter account under the name of Leroy Bickerstaff to defend himself? I can give you two hundred and thirty million reasons why he shouldn't give a fuck what the internet thinks.
…but then I looked into his tweets, from his account that was just created in September of 2024:
Sorry for the information overload, but I could go on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on. This Leroy Bickerstaff fellow was sniffing out anyone and everyone who was shitting on Deshaun after Sunday's game and setting them straight. And now the question begs itself: is this a burner of his?
My stance is no fucking way. My stance is that the internet is so wild these days that some crazy person decided to make this account to try and make it look like Deshaun's burner. But my stance is also that if someone can prove it's Deshaun, it'll be the funniest thing since Johnny Manziel flew to party in Vegas in a wig and went by "Billy".
I will say this though: if Deshaun truly did make a burner account, I fucking love that he used the last name of a former Cavs coach, the one who was just fired this summer. QB1 or more like QB230,000,000 might not be able to read a defense, but he can still read and room and come up with the perfect burner account name for a Cleveland fan.
