Deshaun Watson struggled in the first game of the season, leading to plenty of criticism over his performance against the Dallas Cowboys - and fans think he has created a burner account.
On Sunday, Watson endured a difficult outing as he struggled in the face of the Dallas Cowboys. Hosting the Cowboys at Huntington Bank Field, Watson completed just 24 of 45 passes for 169 yards and a touchdown to go with a pair of interceptions in the 33-17 loss.
Fans have fumed since Watson’s performance, but eagle-eyed fans spotted one fan consistently defended the former Houston Texans quarterback. The X user Leroy Bickerstaff was created in September 2024, is without an image, and is dedicated to defending Watson’s honor.
As a result, some fans aren’t buying it. Many fans believe the account, which follows nobody with minimal tweets, is actually Watson wielding a burner.
The curious Bickerstaff account has just one stand-alone tweet, which was sent out during Monday Night Football when the San Francisco 49ers crushed the New York Jets. The tweet read: “If 4 had a tackle like Trent Williams he’d be able to show his greatness… 4 can’t succeed when he’s got no chance back there.”
If the account does belong to Watson, it seems the quarterback is simply looking to provide excuses for his poor performance in Week 1. The account also replied to plenty of critical tweets, pointing to the porous offensive line, misguided playcalling, and offensive penalties “holding 4 back from his greatness”.
The Twitter Account Leroy Bickerstaff is Defending Deshaun Watson
Leroy Bickerstaff is not here for the Deshaun Watson slander. The account created in September 2024 is avidly defending the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback an the fierceness he's coming with has fans convinced it's actually Watson using a burner.
The Twitter account currently follows no one and has just one tweet, which went out during Monday Night Football. That was a defense of Watson, saying he would excel with someone such as Trent Williams playing left tackle.
While he might not have much original conent, Bickerstaff has been replying often to tweets. He's praising those who aren't ready to give up on Watson while bashing those who think the QB was to blame on Sunday.
Defending Watson and Trolling ESPN's Dan Orlovsky
One of the best examples features him going after Dan Orlovsky of ESPN. Orlovsky said the Cleveland offense can't function with Watson and should consider Jameis Winston as the starter. Bickerstaff did what many do with Orlovsky and made fun of him going out of the back of the end zone. Which is comical since Orlovsky is comfortable poking fun at himself for this.
He's also sharing videos from teammates who are defending Watson'sleadership and warrior mentality.
Fans truly believe this could be Watson trying to spin things in a positive light.
Watson struggled mightily on Sunday, going 24-of-45 for 169 yards with one touchdown and two picks. Fans have been upset over the performance and while Mr. Bickerstaff will preach patience, it's hard to expect that since the poor performance has been on repeat for three years now.
Could It Be Deshaun Watson or Just a Very Passionate Fan?
Is Leroy Bickerstaff, the Twitter account that has been going all out defending Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson, actually the quarterback himself?
Watson's recent performance against the Dallas Cowboys has been met with a lot of criticism. This, along with Watson's previous struggles and large contract, has left fans frustrated. A Twitter account that appears to be defending Watson against all criticism has quickly caught fans' attention.
It has also been quite active in replying to tweets, including videos of Watson's teammates praising his leadership.
However, the Twitter account has just one stand-alone tweet, which was sent out during Monday Night Football. In the tweet, the account appears to be arguing that Watson’s performance would improve if he had a good offensive line.
Given the account’s clear passion for Watson and its aggressive defense of the quarterback, many fans have started to suspect that the account is actually Watson’s burner account. This would not be the first time NFL players have been suspected of using burner accounts to defend themselves from criticism.
What Happens Next?
As the season progresses, it will be interesting to see whether the Leroy Bickerstaff account continues to defend Watson. If the account does belong to Watson, the Browns quarterback is certainly not afraid to express his opinions about the criticisms he faces.
The Browns will be hoping that Watson can turn things around and start performing at the level that they expect. However, the recent criticisms, and the mysterious Twitter account, suggest that Watson’s time in Cleveland is far from smooth sailing.
