The Dodgers offense continued its hot streak and Landon Knack added more evidence to his strong postseason case in an 8-4 win over the Marlins on Wednesday night at loanDepot Park in Miami. Power was the calling card for the Dodgers on Wednesday, sequencing their three home runs in ascending order. Will Smith was first with a solo home run off the left field foul pole in the second inning for his fourth extra-base hit in his last six games. Tommy Edman hit a two-run shot in the fourth inning, tying his best month ever with six home runs this September. The six home runs have come in his last eight games. In the same inning, Kiké Hernández launched a three-run shot to give some clear breathing room. After the Marlins cut a 6-0 deficit in half, Chris Taylor provided some insurance with a two-run single in the eighth inning. The Dodgers settled for eight runs after scoring exactly nine runs on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. As it is, four consecutive games scoring at least eight runs is one shy of the team record, done four times (1913, 1945, 2017, 2021). Knack had his first real clunker in the majors last Friday in Atlanta, with his five runs allowed one more than his previous three starts combined. He only went two innings in that game, but came back on four days rest to pitch five scoreless innings on Wednesday in Miami. He allowed a single to lead off the game and then no other hits until two outs in the fifth. Knack also walked a pair during his start, in which he struck out seven, one shy of his career high. Knack hasn’t been pushed deep into games very often as a rookie, going between four and six innings in 12 of his 13 outings. He’s allowed more than two runs only three times in his 13 major league games, and ends Wednesday with a 3.39 ERA and 61 strikeouts in his 61 innings to go with a manageable 17 walks. In a rotation in need of stability, Knack provided it with just the third start of at least five innings in the Dodgers’ last nine games. Shohei Ohtani singled and stole a base in the first inning, giving him 49 steals on the season, one night after hitting his 48th home run as he inches closer to a 50-50 season. Left-hander Zach Logue, added to the roster before the game, started the seventh inning with a 6-0 lead. But before you could say “three-inning save,” Logue allowed hits to all three batters he faced to end his night. Two of the three scored off Logue, and his bequeathed runner scored after he left. Infinity ERA aside, Logue is the 39th different pitcher used by the Dodgers this season, tying the club record also done in 2021 and 2023. The Dodgers 90 wins for the 11th consecutive full season. The magic number to clinch the National League West is seven. The Dodgers close out their penultimate road series of the regular season with Jack Flaherty on the mound on Wednesday (1:40 p.m. PT, SportsNet LA). Right-hander Edward Cabrera starts for the home team.
