Behind a strong showing from Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles throttled the Mets in the opening game of the series 9-0 less than 20 hours ago.
It was their third straight shutout victory in the postseason. Los Angeles has outscored their opponents 19-0 in the last three games. They have tied an MLB postseason record of 33 straight scoreless innings.
The top seed took advantage of a struggling pitching matchup for New York and quickly shoveled in some runs. The avalanche grew stronger in the fourth inning as Los Angeles tacked on three more, including an RBI from an ailing Freddie Freeman.
Dodgers starting pitcher Jack Flaherty pitched seven innings of scoreless ball.
It will be a quick turnaround as the teams traverse from a night game to an afternoon matchup. Los Angeles is expected to go with their patented bullpen game. A starter has not been announced.
Under the current 2-3-2 format, teams that win the first game have gone on to win the series 67% of the time. Of course, that all changes if New York can muster a split before headed back to Queens.
After a quiet NLDS, Shohei Ohtani delivered an electric performance to open the NLCS. Ohtani put together a two-hit, one RBI evening. He also crossed the plate twice. Ohtani is 6-for-24 with a home run and four RBI this postseason.
Listed as a gametime-decision, Freddie Freeman continues to battle a badly sprained ankle injury. That ailment didn’t seem to hamper him as he churned in a 2-for-3 performance, including an RBI. Freeman is batting .353 in the playoffs this season.
Kiki Hernandez notched two hits in Game 1. The October standout has 14 home runs and 30 RBI with a .281 batting average in 192 at-bats in his postseason career.

Kodai Senga simply didn’t have it as he struggled to find the strike zone in a frustrating outing. The Dodgers were happy to make him pay, chasing him out after an inning and some change.
New York will look to regroup with a much more favorable matchup in Game 2 as they turn to the reliable arm of Sean Manaea.
After some magic in the opening round, the Mets’ bats were held in check in Game 1. The quick turnaround could be just what they need to wash away a dismal beginning to their NLCS.
They will need to find an avenue for runs fast as the Dodgers shutout streak is set to reach historic levels in just one inning.
Mark Vientos entered the NLCS on a tear. He was cooled off in Game 1, but still touts a .375 batting average, 7 RBI and 12 hits. All of which are team highs in the postseason. He had a stretch of four consecutive multi-hit games snapped in the loss.
Francisco Lindor brought a magic touch into the next round. His Game 4 grand slam against the Phillies was a gamechanger. He struck out and walked in Game 1 against the Dodgers. Lindor posted 33 home runs and 91 RBI during the regular season.
Pete Alonso was held to a walk and one strikeout in the series opener. He has three home runs and six RBI in 25 at-bats this postseason.

Los Angeles' mysterious bullpen game rages on with a treasure trove of options. The unit delivered nine shutout innings in Game 4 of the NLDS. Evan Phillips, Michael Kopech and Blake Treinen are names to watch in key matchups.
