Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki has earned her place in Emmy history. At the 2024 Emmys, the 34-year-old actress won Best Supporting Actress In A Drama for her portrayal of Princess Diana in Netflix's The Crown. This victory marks the first time an Australian actress has secured this award.

"I didn't write anything down because I'm very superstitious and now I'm in a real pickle, so I'm going to do this quickly," Elizabeth Debicki humorously said as she accepted her award on Sunday night.

She went on to express her gratitude to Peter Morgan, the show's creator. "Thank you, Peter. Thank you for making this show. Thank you for trusting me with this," she said. She also thanked the cast and crew before reflecting on her role as Princess Diana. "Playing this part, based on this unparalleled, incredible human being has been my great privilege," she added.

ICYDK, Elizabeth Debicki began her role as Princess Diana in the show's fifth season and continued into its sixth and final season, which explored the years from 1997 to 2005, including Diana's relationship with Dodi Fayed and the tragic car accident that took their lives.

The 76th annual Emmy Awards, co-hosted by father-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy, were broadcast live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

Elizabeth Debicki looked like red-carpet royalty at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards. On Sunday evening, the actor arrived at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles for the 2024 Emmys, where she emulated Princess Diana’s graceful elegance in a sophisticated black velvet ball gown from Dior. Debicki kept her accessories to a minimum, wearing diamond drop earrings, a silver bracelet, and a diamond-encrusted ring.

Tonight, Debicki is among several nominees for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, for her performance as Diana on Netflix’s The Crown. She was also nominated in the same category at the 2023 ceremony, though that Emmy ultimately went to Jennifer Coolidge for her work on HBO’s The White Lotus.

Debicki stepped into the role of the late Princess Diana for seasons five and six of The Crown. (Emma Corrin previously played a younger version of the royal, in seasons three and four.) She opened up about the pressures of playing such a beloved public figure in a 2023 interview with Harper’s Bazaar.

“I think Princess Diana, in the way that I’ve tried to play her, is someone who tries to make people at ease, but it’s not often that she’s going to come across someone of a certain status in life who is able to facilitate a kind of lifestyle and understand [her] needs,” Debicki said of the Princess of Wales, who died in a car crash in 1997. “My Diana is someone who’s not been listened to very well or given a lot of space to be seen in a certain light. The way that Khalid [Abdalla] played Dodi informed a lot of what I found out in the relationship—that he’s very gentle, he’s very loving, he listens in an incredible way.”

Debicki’s win cements an extraordinary run for The Crown at the Emmys. Going into the night, the show, which has run for six seasons, had won 23 Emmys from 87 nominations. The show is also nominated for Outstanding Drama Series.

Debicki is the only actor to win for The Crown this season so far despite a number of her colleagues also being nominated. Dominic West, who played Prince Charles, is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series, Claire Foy, who returned briefly as Queen Elizabeth II, was nominated in Outstanding Guest Actress In A Drama Series, Imelda Staunton, who played Queen Elizabeth II in the final two seasons, is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series and Jonathan Pryce, who played Prince Philip, was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series.

Nobody looks quite like Princess Diana—except Elizabeth Debicki, who plays her. The Crown actress, who just won the 2024 Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, is taking her resemblance to the royal onto the red carpet.

The actress’s glossy makeup appears to be a nod to Princess Diana’s classic and elegant aesthetic—right down to the pale pink lip shade, a tried and true hue for the late royal. “I wanted to focus on the perfect pout with a glossy center while keeping her skin dewy and light,” makeup artist Misha Shahzada exclusively shares with Marie Claire. “The hues were pinks and nudes, which complimented Elizabeth’s skin tone nicely.”

Princess Diana favored pale pink lipstick, only occasionally swapping it out for brighter shades. The resulting peachy-pink color came from a concoction of three separate shades: “I started with the Rouge Dior Balm in #000 Diornatural for lip prep, then I lined and filled her lips Rouge Dior Contour Lip Pencil in shade #259 Nude Ribbon, and topped off the center of her lips with Dior Addict Lip Maximizer in shade #001 Pink,” she adds.

The key to keeping this high-shine finish on— from the red carpet to the Emmys stage is adding a coating of liner to the body of the lips. “It gives a lipstick feel while keeping the lips extra hydrated.”

Debicki's dress was also Christian Dior.

While Debicki did not chop her hair into a pixie for this event, she did work with hairstylist DJ Quintero to ensure it was off her neck in a Princess Diana fashion. He swooped her blonde strands into an “effortless” French twist and applied the KERASILK Taming Balm to smooth down any flyaways.
