A man in his 50s has been arrested in Dublin following a major drug seizure after coming from France. The incident happened at Dublin Port on Sunday, September 22. The man, who is in his 50s, was taken into custody following the discovery of cocaine with an estimated value of €2.8 million. He was arrested by Gardaí from the DMR North Central Divisional Drugs Unit, with the drugs seized by Revenue officers.

Revenue officers discovered around 40 kilograms of cocaine concealed in the floor of a trailer during the search. The vehicle had disembarked from a ferry arriving into Ireland from Cherbourg, France.

The man was arrested at the scene and is currently being detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996. He is being held at a Garda station in the Dublin region.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí from the DMR North Central Divisional Drugs Unit have arrested a man in his 50s following the seizure of cocaine with an estimated value of €2.8 million (pending analysis) by Revenue officers at Dublin Port on Sunday, 22nd September 2024.

"Revenue officers discovered 40 kilograms of cocaine concealed in the floor cavity of a trailer during a search of a vehicle that had disembarked from a ferry arriving from Cherbourg, France.

"The man was arrested at the scene and is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996, at a Garda station in the Dublin Region. He can be held for up to seven days."

The drugs that have been seized are set to be forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland for further analysis. Gardaí also confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing.

They added: "The drugs seized will be forwarded to FSI for analysis. Investigations are ongoing."
