Tottenham Hotspur have been subject to intensive links with a move to sign highly regarded Ukrainian midfielder Georgiy Sudakov. The Lilywhites enjoyed a magnificent summer transfer window where Daniel Levy not only got his incomings right but also ensured that the outgoings were also adhered to as they got rid of the surplus at Hotspur Way. While signing an attacking midfielder as an understudy or a possible competition to James Maddison was on the agenda, nothing amounted to that end, and the club will look to meet those in the upcoming transfer intervals for 2025.

Spurs are expected to go back in for the Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder in the upcoming windows; however, this time around the competition is expected to generate more interest, with the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Chelsea interested in securing the talented midfielder.

Football Insider in a report earlier this week claimed that Daniel Levy & Co. are doing their ‘due diligence’ on the 22-year-old ahead of the upcoming winter transfer window.

And as the race to his signatures boils down, his current employers are looking at a potential €65m (£54m) to part ways with Georgiy Sudakov per CaughtOffSide.

For Tottenham, spending such hefty money would mean he would not only come in with an aim to take over from James Maddison in the long term but also change the dynamic of the Lilywhites attack. However, the question remains whether Levy would spend such money on the Ukrainian in the winter window.

Why Spurs Could Miss Out on Sudakov

A number of European clubs are interested in Shakhtar midfielder Georgiy Sudakov. Many APL clubs are interested in Sudakov, with Chelsea showing a particular interest. The Londoners are ready to pay Shakhtar 65 million pounds sterling for Sudakov. According to the British portal Daily Express, Chelsea are the favorites to sign Sudakov, and it is up to Mikhail Mudryk to convince Georgi to choose the Blues.

Sudakov's Impressive Form

Sudakov is widely seen as one of the best young attackers in Europe and in light of his impressive displays in the Champions League this season, a number of clubs now appear to have their eye on his development. This includes Tottenham, with Football Insider stating earlier this week that the Lilywhites are doing their ‘due diligence’ on the 22-year-old ahead of the January window. A few days ago, TuttoJuve also confirmed Spurs’ interest in the Shakhtar man but they suggested that Ange Postecoglou‘s men will have to battle Arsenal for the player’s services.

CaughtOffside have now claimed that the race for Sudakov is heating up, with the two North London sides joined by Liverpool, Newcastle and Aston Villa. All these clubs have allegedly scouted the attacking midfielder this season and it is suggested that a bidding war may ensue for his services. The outlet states that it would take a fee of around €65m (£54m) to convince the Ukrainian side to part ways with their star player. The report suggests that many of these clubs might be plotting a move at the end of the season rather than during the winter transfer window. The same information was also carried by the aforementioned report in Football Insider, which remarked that Shakhtar would make any deal difficult in January.

The Verdict: A Price Tag Too High For Spurs?

This season Sudakov has played 11 games for Shakhtar, in which he scored seven goals and made two assists. This kind of form is bound to attract the attention of clubs across Europe, and with the price tag set at a potential €65m, it remains to be seen whether Tottenham will be willing to make a move for the talented Ukrainian. Sudakov is a talented player with the potential to be a star in the Premier League, but whether Tottenham can afford him and whether they are willing to pay such a high price for a player who may not be a guaranteed starter is a question that only time will answer.

While Tottenham is known for its scouting network, the Lilywhites have not been actively involved in big-money transfers for some time. They are looking at the bigger picture and the long-term investment, making a €65m move for Sudakov unlikely in the winter window.

Instead, Tottenham will likely focus on signing players who are younger and have the potential to develop into key players for the club. This could involve making a move for Sudakov in the summer, when the transfer market is more active and there are fewer other teams competing for his signature. The Lilywhites may also try to negotiate a lower price for the player.

The Next Chapter

Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to sign Sudakov will come down to Daniel Levy and the club’s willingness to make a big investment in a player who is still relatively unproven. If they believe he is the right player to take them to the next level, they may be willing to pay the asking price. But if they are more cautious and prefer to invest in younger, less expensive players, they may choose to wait and see how Sudakov develops in the coming months. Only time will tell if Tottenham will be successful in their pursuit of the Ukrainian star.
