A man has died and a seven-year-old girl has suffered life-threatening injuries after a crash near the Welsh border. Emergency services were called to the crash on the the A483 near Oswestry, at around 8.50am on Friday morning (August 23).
The crash involved a grey Audi S3 saloon, which was travelling in the direction of Welshpool and blue Volvo lorry, which was travelling in the opposite direction towards Mile End. Police have confirmed that the driver of the car, a 59-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

PC Ben Ward, of West Mercia Police, said: "Our thoughts are with the family following this devastating collision. We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at the time and who may have witnessed the incident.
"Please call 01743 261833 or email [email protected] with any information." The road remains closed and police said it was likely to remain closed for a number of hours.
A483 Road Closure After Fatal Crash
A 59-year-old man died in the accident between a grey Audi car and a blue HGV vehicle, whose driver was treated for minor injuries.
A seven-year-old girl – believed to be a passenger in the same vehicle as the deceased man – was taken by air ambulance to Liverpool’s Alder Hey Children’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police have launched an appeal for information.
National Highways Midlands have confirmed the road has now reopened in both directions.
In a message posted on X, they said: “The earlier serious collision has been cleared and the road is now fully re-opened.
“No delays.”
Traffic monitoring website Inrix says its sensors have now said the road is clear and open.
It said: “Earlier accident investigation work (over), road re-opened.”

A man was killed and girl seriously injured in a crash on a major route this morning, Friday August 23. West Mercia Police confirmed a man, 59, was killed on the A483 near to Oswestry in a crash involving an Audi and Volvo HGV.
A girl, seven, was airlifted to hospital with "life threatening" injuries. West Midlands Ambulance confirmed a second man, said to be the lorry driver, was assessed and treated for minor injuries at the scene.
Officers released a witness appeal on Friday afternoon, urging anyone who may have been in the area at the time to get in touch with them directly. They have also warned the A483 will be closed for "a number of hours" as accident investigation work takes place.

"The road remains closed and is likely to remain closed for a number of hours." Live traffic system INRIX reported this afternoon that the A483 was closed "in both directions" confirming that accident investigation work was taking place between the Morda turn off and A5 (Mile End Roundabout).
A West Midlands Ambulance spokesperson added: "A man has died, and another two patients required treatment following a road traffic collision (RTC) between a car and a lorry in Oswestry this morning (Friday 23rd). West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the A483 at 8:50am and sent two ambulances, two paramedic officers and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford to the scene. The Welsh Air Ambulance also attended the incident.
“On arrival crews found three patients. The first patient, a man who was the driver of the car, was found to have suffered serious injuries. Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.
“A girl, who was a passenger in the car, was also found to have suffered serious injuries. Following treatment at the scene she was airlifted to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. A second man, the driver of the lorry, was assessed and treated for minor injuries and discharged from the scene with medical advice.”
