Federal Government Grants Disaster Assistance to Sikeston after May Tornadoes
The Federal government declared the city of Sikeston under recovery from a major disaster on Tuesday, July 31, in the ongoing cleanup efforts from a May 26 tornado.
Sikeston's Facebook page provided more information on what this means for residents on Wednesday morning.
Eligible residents may now sign up for Individual Assistance with FEMA. Those who qualify may receive help via temporary housing, repairs to damaged homes, possession or vehicle replacements, and other expenses. Those who plan to apply should document damage via photos or receipts.

FEMA personnel will be in Mountain View today, July 29th, to visit victims of the dangerous storms and tornadoes that damaged a chunk of Howell County.

IRS Announces Tax Relief for Victims of Severe Storms, Tornadoes, Flooding and More in Missouri
If you’re a Missourian hitting certain requirements from the last major bout of weather, you may have a little extra time to file your tax returns. Other federal agencies have announced relief options in the past two weeks, the IRS is the latest to join.
Today, the IRS announced that both businesses and individuals would be eligible for relief, specifically if they are in Barry, Bollinger, Butler, Carter, Howell, Madison, McDonald, New Madrid, Oregon, Reynolds, Ripley Scott, Shannon, Stoddard, and Texas counties.
Relief Options Continue to Roll into Missouri Following Severe Floods, Rains, Tornadoes
Disaster Survivor Assistance Teams from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have begun visiting 10 Missouri counties – including Texas County – impacted by the May 19-27 severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding to help register affected individuals and households for FEMA assistance.
Over the coming days and weeks, teams of two each will spread out to Barry, Butler, Carter, Howell, New Madrid, Ripley, Scott, Shannon, Stoddard, and Texas counties to augment individual efforts to access federal disaster assistance.
Federal Government Provides Recovery Assistance to Sikeston after May Tornados
A major disaster declaration has been granted for severe weather in 10 southern Missouri counties. Gov. Mike Parson’s office says the federal government has approved his request in response to severe weather events in May.
A news release from the governor’s office says the declaration is for multiple severe weather systems bringing tornadoes, high winds, and flooding across southern Missouri from May 19-27.

Individuals who had damage or losses due to severe weather between May 19 and 27 can apply for FEMA disaster assistance online at www.disasterassistance.gov or by calling FEMA’s toll-free application line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.
