Nicolas Cage may have made Spider-Man Noir world-famous, but he’s not the first actor to play the Marvel hero onscreen!
Spider-Noir is Amazon’s upcoming live-action Spider-Man TV series, featuring Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Man Noir character, who was a breakout hit of Sony’s Spider-Verse animated films. No doubt Spider-Man Noir is now a mainstream character thanks to Cage’s performance in the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse; however, Cage wasn’t the first acclaimed actor to play Spider-Man Noir onscreen!
This Is Us and Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia voiced an animated version of Spider-Man Noir in the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series (2012-2017). He was featured in the multi-episode Season 3 story arc “The Spider-Verse (Pt. 2)” where he both scrapped and teamed up with Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Drake Bell) from the “Prime Universe.” Spider-Man Noir was part of a coalition of Spider-Man variants (Spider-Man 2099, Spider-Girl, Spider-Ham, Spyder-Knight, Miles Morales) who are targeted by Norman Osborn/Green Goblin to have their DNA stolen, so Norman can become the “Spider-Goblin.” The animated version of the story drew from Spider-Man comics at the time, while also setting the stage for the Spider-Verse concept to get a blockbuster movie adaptation a few years later.
Ventimiglia’s Spider-Man Noir was a big geeky Easter egg when he appeared in Ultimate Spider-Man – but ironically, that more comic-accurate version (from a “Noir Universe” modeled after 1930s Film Noir) will now be the subject matter viewers get in this live-action Spider-Noir series. Thanks to Nic Cage’s comedic idiosyncracies, fans already buy into Spider-Man/Peter Parker Noir’s strange cadences and mannerisms – if Amazon MGM Studios can sell them on that entire world, Sony’s live-action Spider-Verse franchise takes a critical step forward, as Spider-Noir is the first (and most high-profile) TV series in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, which has already seen projects (Silk: Spider Society) die in development.
Spider-Noir will co-star Lamorne Morris (New Girl) as Robbie Robertson; additional cast members include Lukas Haas (Inception), Cameron Britton (Mindhunter), Cary Christopher (Days of Our Lives), Michael Kostroff (Luke Cage), Scott MacArthur (The Righteous Gemstones), Joe Massingill (Barry), Whitney Rice (Jury Duty), and Amanda Schull (Suits) in recurring roles.
Emmy Award-winning director Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag, Killing Eve) directs the series and will executive produce the first two episodes. Oren Uziel (The Lost City, 22 Jump Street) and Steve Lightfoot (Marvel’s The Punisher, Shantaram), serve as co-showrunners and executive producers and developed the series with the Academy Award-winning team behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse: Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal.
Spider-Noir is currently in production. It will air on MGM+ in 2025.
Nicolas Cage’s “Spider-Man Noir” is gonna look tall, dark and handsome on the set of his new TV show ... but, fans will have to wait a little longer to see Nic in the costume -- 'cause there are only pics of his stunt double so far.
Photos and video from the set of 'Noir' have leaked ... with the alternate version of Spider-Man standing atop an old jalopy, ready to beat down on some bad guys.
Check out the pics ... the lovable black-and-white antihero from the 'Spiderverse' films is clad in his traditional outfit -- looking like a mish-mashed Spider-Man/Batman hybrid. He's got a ski mask, goggles, combat boots, trench coat and trademark fedora on -- less spandex and more steampunk, we gotta say.
Nic Cage is reprising his role from the hit Marvel animated flicks ... though we're told this isn't him in the pics, but his stunt double instead.
'Noir' was announced back in May ... set to debut on MGM+ and then globally on Amazon Prime Video.
The cast list is star-studded... with Nic Cage leading a group starring Academy Award nominee Brendan Gleeson, Emmy winner Lamorne Morris, Jack Huston, Li Jun Li and more appearing in the show.
Looks like this Nic's Spidey is already getting into the crime-fightin' mood ... or, at least his stunt double is!
The first look at Nicolas Cage's hero in Spider-Noir has been revealed. Sony's Spider-Man Universe continues to release new films, with Venom: The Last Dance just hitting theaters and Kraven the Hunter set to come in December. However, the studio's plans for its Marvel properties extend beyond the theatrical experience. Sony is developing a number of live-action series for Prime Video, with Nicolas Cage leading the cast of Spider-Noir, the first of those series.
TMZ has shared the first set photos and video of Nicolas Cage's Spider-Man Noir in action in the upcoming Spider-Noir series. The show will feature Cage in a traditional Spider-Man Noir suit. The character sports all of his trademark items, like the fedora, trench coat, and goggles Cage's Spider-Man Noir wore in both of the animated Spider-Man movies in the Spider-Verse franchise. The set photos and videos show the hero on top of a car during a high-speed chase, with Spider-Man Noir seemingly using his webs on buildings to stop the car.

The Spider-Noir set photos and video show that Sony wants to bring a faithful version of the Marvel hero to life. Nicolas Cage's hero looks as if he stepped right out of the comics or the animated Spider-Verse films into live-action, with a costume that is a pitch-perfect adaptation. That is reassuring, as the Spider-Noir series is not going to be fully accurate to the character's Marvel history. In a move that could have been made to differentiate the show from Tom Holland's Spider-Man, Cage's Spider-Man Noir will have a different identity in the series.
Tom Holland has commented on Miles Morales' live-action debut, and it adds pressure to Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse's release date reveal.
Spider-Man Noir is normally an alternate universe version of Peter Parker. However, Spider-Noir will make the hero another character, which has yet to be revealed, though rumors suggest that Cage's Marvel hero could turn out to be Marvel Comics' Ben Reilly. The Prime Video series also does not use the Spider-Man name in its title, instead opting to call the show Spider-Noir. Despite these changes, the first look at Spider-Man Noir in action shows that the hero will look just like he should, and that is a great sign.
I am a big fan of Nicolas Cage's Spider-Man Noir from the Spider-Verse movies, so I was already excited to see him make the jump to live-action and discover how different this new version of the hero is. However, after having seen the first look at Cage's Spider-Man Noir costume, I am looking forward to the new Spider-Noir series even more. The team behind the show did a great job, bringing exactly what I wanted to see from the hero's suit in live-action. The costume also looks great in action, as shown during the car chase, making Spider-Noir look exciting.
