Former Clemson wide receiver Diondre Overton, who helped the Tigers win national championships in both 2016 and 2018, was shot and killed early Saturday morning in Greensboro, North Carolina. He was 26 years old.
Overton's passing was confirmed by the Guilford County Sheriff's Office, which responded to a noise disturbance call at a house around 2:30 a.m. ET on Saturday morning. While deputies were en route, they were informed that a shooting had occurred at the home. Upon arrival, they found Overton suffering from a gunshot wound. Authorities administered medical attention, but Overton was pronounced dead at the scene.

Overton's Clemson Career
Overton played for the Tigers from 2016 to 2019, recording 52 receptions and seven touchdowns in 51 games. During his time at the school, they won four ACC championships and national titles in 2016 and 2018.
He signed with Clemson in the class of 2016 as a four-star prospect out of Page High School in Greensboro, North Carolina. Overton played a key role in the Tigers' success during his time there.
He caught a touchdown pass in each of the first two games of Clemson's 2018 national championship season, including the Tigers' penultimate score of their 28-26 win at Texas A&M.
Overton's best season came as a senior, when he had 22 receptions for 352 yards and three touchdowns, posting 119 of those yards and the 3 scores against Boston College.
In 2019, he earned the Leather Helmet Award as the Most Valuable Player of the Clemson/Boston College game for a performance in which he posted 119 yards and three touchdowns on only three receptions.
Overton was also a team captain and was an Academic All-ACC his senior season.
Overton's Professional Career
After graduating from Clemson with a degree in sports communication in the summer of 2019, Overton continued his football career in the professional ranks.
His professional career included stops in the CFL, the European League of Football and the UFL. He was selected by the Memphis Showboats in the UFL dispersal draft earlier this year.
