As children across the UK get ready to trick-or-treat this week to celebrate Halloween on Thursday, what will the weather look like? The Met Office has issued a full Halloween and trick-or-treating weather forecast for the UK, predicting 'unseasonably mild' weather after recent days saw temperatures up to 7C above the seasonal average.

The weather service recorded 'unseasonably warm' temperatures for late October on Monday (October 28), with parts of the UK enjoying conditions 'more akin to early June than late October'.

The dry and mild conditions are expected to last throughout the week across most of the country, meaning Halloween festivities are unlikely to be disturbed by rainy weather. Tom Morgan, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “It’s been pretty mild over the last few days, with temperatures as high at 19C in a few places, which is about 6C to 7C above seasonal average.”

Mr Morgan added that temperatures on Monday were not only unseasonably high, but also widespread across the country, and likely to last a few more days. He said: “The rest of the week will generally see temperatures in the mid-teens. So, if we look at Halloween, it will be unseasonably mild for trick-or-treating, and often quite cloudy and dry – both by day and by night.”

Halloween Weather: Mild and Mostly Dry

The Met Office's forecast for Halloween is good news for trick-or-treaters. While there might be some cloud cover, the weather is expected to be dry in most areas. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-teens, making for comfortable trick-or-treating conditions.

A Glimpse of Winter in the North?

It comes after the Met Office predicted a chance of snow showers for some northern and eastern regions of the UK as early as this week – but the 'vast majority' of the country will keep enjoying mild and largely dry weather until next week. Mr Morgan said: “Next weekend will likely be a little bit colder, and I wouldn’t rule out some snow showers in the Shetlands and possibly in northern Scotland. But the cold weather will not become widespread. Not everyone will stay dry, but the bulk of the UK will have dry weather.”

A Week of Mild Weather

Overall, the week ahead looks to be a mild one for most of the UK. Temperatures are expected to remain above average for this time of year, and the dry weather is set to continue. However, there is a chance of rain in some areas, particularly in the north, and some fog is also expected.

Tuesday's Weather

A fairly cloudy day for many, though a better chance of a few bright spells developing in the northeast and south during the afternoon. The odd light shower, with more persistent rain in the far north. Staying mild.

Wednesday's Weather

Another cloudy day after mist and fog clear through the morning in the south. Breezier in the north with a few light showers, but remaining mild throughout.

Foggy Start for Some

While the overall outlook for the week is mild and mostly dry, some areas may experience some foggy mornings, especially in the south. This fog may be stubborn to clear, so it’s important to be aware of the conditions if you’re driving or walking.

Stay Updated

As we get closer to Halloween, it’s always a good idea to check the latest forecast from the Met Office to get the most accurate picture of the weather conditions in your area. This will help you plan your Halloween festivities accordingly, ensuring a safe and enjoyable time for everyone.

A Time for Celebrations

While the weather may not be making any headlines this week, the largely dry and settled conditions are almost ideal for half-termers, trick-or-treaters and those celebrating Diwali (also on Thursday). So enjoy the festive spirit and have a safe and happy Halloween!
