Indiana Hoosiers Roll Past Charlotte, Extend Unbeaten Streak to 4-0

The Indiana Hoosiers continued their impressive start to the season with a resounding 52-14 victory over the Charlotte 49ers at Memorial Stadium on Saturday. The win extended Indiana's unbeaten streak to 4-0, marking their best start since 2020.

Hoosiers Dominate Early

Indiana wasted no time establishing their dominance, forcing a three-and-out on Charlotte's opening drive. The Hoosiers then marched down the field, capped off by a thrilling eight-yard touchdown run by seventh-year senior running back Ty Son Lawton. This early score set the tone for the rest of the game.

Indiana's defense continued to shut down Charlotte's offense throughout the first quarter, while the Hoosiers' offense continued to roll. A 27-yard field goal by redshirt freshman kicker Nicolas Radicic extended Indiana's lead to 10-0, which they carried into the second quarter.

Charlotte Fights Back

Charlotte's offense finally found some life in the second quarter, as redshirt junior quarterback Trexler Ivey led a pair of scoring drives. However, Indiana's offense answered each time, ensuring that their lead remained comfortable. At halftime, the Hoosiers held a 31-14 advantage.

Indiana Dominates Second Half

The Hoosiers picked up right where they left off in the second half. Lawton scored his second touchdown of the game on a five-yard run on Indiana's opening possession. The Hoosiers' defense then forced a turnover on downs on Charlotte's ensuing possession. Seven plays later, redshirt junior running back Kaelon Black found the endzone from 21 yards out, giving Indiana a commanding 45-14 lead.

The Hoosiers' offense continued to pile on the points in the fourth quarter. Redshirt junior running back Elijah Green added a 13-yard rushing touchdown, extending Indiana's lead to 52-14. This score sealed the Hoosiers' victory, as they cruised to their fourth win of the season.

Rourke Leads the Offense

Sixth-year senior quarterback Kurtis Rourke led the way for Indiana's offense. He finished the game 16-of-20 for 258 yards and one touchdown, while adding another touchdown on the ground. Rourke's performance showcased his remarkable talent and his ability to effectively run Indiana's offense.

The Hoosiers' rushing attack also proved to be a major factor in their victory. Indiana amassed 222 yards and six touchdowns on 41 carries. Redshirt senior Justice Ellison led the team in rushing with 58 yards and a touchdown on nine carries.

Indiana's Defense Shines

Indiana's defense was the driving force behind their victory. The Hoosiers held Charlotte's offense to just 14 points, showcasing their dominant defensive prowess. Charlotte's struggles against Indiana's defense demonstrated the challenge that the Hoosiers present for any opponent.

Looking Ahead

Indiana will look to continue their winning ways next week when they host the Maryland Terrapins (3-1) at Memorial Stadium on Sept. 28. The Hoosiers will be looking to build on their impressive start to the season and remain undefeated as they face a tough Maryland team.
