Irish Athletes Achieve Success at SIAB Schools International Cross Country Competition

Team Ireland Earns Silver at SIAB Schools Cross Country International Event

A squad of 40 athletes from Ireland left their mark at the SIAB Schools Cross Country International Competition held at the Sport Ireland Campus on March 23rd.

Across the action-packed three-hour schedule, fervent spectators witnessed remarkable performances from the Irish teams.

Irish Dominance in Junior Girls and Intermediate Girls Races

In the junior girls race, the Renton twins, Freya and Holly, showcased their skills. Freya claimed the top podium spot with a time of 10:27, while Holly secured third place with a time of 10:52. Their combined efforts contributed to Ireland's exceptional team performance, earning them the silver medal.

The intermediate girls team delivered an awe-inspiring performance, with six athletes placing within the top 20. Emily Bolton led the charge with an 8th-place finish, followed by teammates Emily Morris (12th), Clara Casey (13th), Dearbhla Allen (14th), Eimear Cooney (18th), and Ava Diver (20th). Together, they secured another silver medal for Ireland.

Success for Junior Boys and Intermediate Boys Teams

The junior boys team demonstrated their strength, finishing fourth in the team standings. The intermediate boys team followed suit, claiming another silver medal thanks to their incredible team effort. Daire Matthews finished 7th, closely followed by Odhran McBrearty (9th), Leo Murray (11th), Lorcan Forde Dunne (13th), Harry McKenzie (15th), and Declan O’Connell (18th).
