A Pathway to a Better Future: Lakeland Dairies Unveils New Bursary Program for Farming Students

Lakeland Dairies, a leading dairy cooperative, has announced a new bursary opportunity aimed at supporting students pursuing undergraduate or higher-level degrees in fields related to their operations. The initiative, aptly named 'Lakeland Dairies Pathway to a Better Future Bursary,' reflects the cooperative's commitment to education and innovation within the agricultural sector.

Supporting the Next Generation of Dairy Professionals

The bursary program, launched in August 2024, will award six annual bursaries to students pursuing courses in agricultural science, dairy science, engineering, and other related fields. The initiative targets the children of Lakeland Dairies' 3,200 farm families, as well as employees of the cooperative, with three bursaries available in Northern Ireland and three in the Republic of Ireland. Each recipient will receive a bursary of €2,000/£2,000 to assist them with their academic endeavors.

A Commitment to Sustainable Growth

The rollout of this bursary program is a significant step in Lakeland Dairies' sustainability strategy, 'Pathway to a Better Future.' The strategy outlines the cooperative's commitment to investing in the future of the dairy industry by supporting the next generation of dairy professionals. This initiative reflects the cooperative's belief in the power of education to drive innovation and sustainable growth within the agricultural sector.

Investing in Talent and Community

Colin Kelly, Group CEO of Lakeland Dairies, emphasizes the importance of the bursary program: "It gives me great pleasure to introduce the 'Lakeland Dairies Pathway to a Better Future Bursary.' This initiative, deeply rooted in our commitment to education and innovation within the agricultural sector, is designed to support the bright minds whose academic pursuits align with our cooperative's ambitions." He further emphasizes the program's link to the cooperative's core values: "Each year, six deserving students enrolled in a range of courses will benefit from a bursary of €2,000/£2,000. This support not only underscores our dedication to fostering talent but also reflects the strength and unity of the 3,200 farm families who supply Lakeland Dairies. Together, we are investing in a sustainable future for our community and the industry at large."

Opportunity Awaits: How to Apply

Candidates interested in applying for the bursary are required to submit their applications via email to: [email protected]. Applications should include the following information:

  • A cover letter outlining their academic background and career aspirations.
  • A detailed curriculum vitae highlighting their achievements and relevant experience.
  • Academic transcripts and certificates.
  • Two letters of recommendation from academic or professional references.

The closing date for applications is September 30, 2024. Successful applicants will be selected based on a combination of academic merit, leadership potential, and their commitment to the dairy industry.
