Country music star LeAnn Rimes was left less than impressed during her appearance on ITV's This Morning, admitting: "I don't think I can do this," as she sampled traditional British foods.
Presenters Rochelle Humes and Joel Dommett invited the 'How Do I Live' singer to try a variety of snacks for her Rimes Rates series, where she tastes local cuisine from countries she's touring in. The menu included a "very dry" Scotch egg, a mug of Bovril, a Tunnock's teacake and pork scratchings.
After finally taking a sip, she commented: "It's like watered down beef," before quickly putting the mug down. The pork scratchings also failed to win her over, earning a lowly one out of 10 rating.
Desperate for something more palatable, LeAnn pleaded: "Give me a chip or something sweet!" She was then given a teacake, which Rochelle described as a "Scottish classic". Joel quipped: "There's nothing that complements a cup of Bovril more," reports the Mirror.
LeAnn responded: "Yeah, we got pork, and egg, beef and then some sweets... Mmm. I'm gonna give this a seven."
Another user chimed in: "Scotch egg, pork scratchings, cup of Bovril and a teacake... Hang on, that's my breakfast..." An alternative viewpoint suggested the better pairing would have been "Mini kyiv and marmite would have been the right options!"
LeAnn's appearance on the show was to promote the upcoming series of The Voice UK, where she will be a judge.
LeAnn Rimes's Reaction to British Food
LeAnn Rimes's reaction to the traditional British food was a mix of amusement and disgust. She almost choked on the dry Scotch egg and found the Bovril to be too strong and watery. Her reaction to the pork scratchings was more subtle, but she gave them a low rating of 1 out of 10. She did seem to enjoy the Tunnock's teacake, though, giving it a rating of 7 out of 10. The overall sentiment was one of humor and lightheartedness.
Bovril: A British Staple
Bovril is a popular British drink made from beef extract. It's often served hot and is considered a wintertime staple. The strong, savory flavor can be a bit of an acquired taste, and it's certainly not for everyone.
