Iceland and Lidl have issued warnings to shoppers over products that have been pulled from the shelves. Iceland Foods Ltd is recalling Vegetable Balti Bakes because they may contain milk which is not mentioned on the label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents. The recall covers two-packs of Balti Bakes in 280g packs, with a best-before date of July 9, 2026.
The product may contain milk making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents. Iceland Foods Ltd is recalling the product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.
If you have bought the product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.
Lidl Northern Ireland is recalling Deluxe Chicken & Vegetable Soup because of undeclared barley (gluten) and wheat (gluten). Due to a packaging error, the soup has been packaged into the incorrect Sweet Potato & Chicken Soup tub with the correct Chicken & Vegetable Soup lid. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with coeliac disease, and/or an allergy or intolerance to barley, wheat or gluten. The recall covers 400g tubs with a best-before date of September 29, 2024.
Lidl NI is recalling the product from customers and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a recall notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.
If you have bought the product do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store where you bought it. For further details, contact Lidl Northern Ireland on 0289 568 4888.
Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold. Then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product). Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the Food Standards Agency will issue an Allergy Alert.
Mispacked Soup
The alert was issued today, Thursday, for batches of one of supermarket giant Lidl’s most popular products. The supermarket’s Deluxe Chicken & Vegetable Soup was “mispacked into tubs labelled as Deluxe Sweet Potato & Chicken Soup”.
“Deluxe Chicken & Vegetable Soup was mispacked into tubs labelled as Deluxe Sweet Potato & Chicken Soup. Deluxe Chicken & Vegetable Soup contains cereals containing gluten (wheat and barley), which are not declared on the label.
“The affected tubs have the correct Deluxe Chicken & Vegetable Soup lid. This may make the implicated batch unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of cereals containing gluten (wheat and barley),” a statement from the FSAI reads.
The affected batch has a use by date of September 29 2024 and was sold in Lidl stores across Ireland.
Milk-Containing Balti Bakes
A second item has also been recalled from Iceland supermarkets, as it may contain milk which has not been disclosed on the label.
The Iceland 2 Vegetable Balti Bakes may have milk in them which could be an issue for people with allergies to dairy.
“If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”
Food Safety Alerts
The FSA regularly issues alerts when there is an issue with a food product, necessitating its withdrawal from shelves or recall, where customers are asked to return it. Anyone who has bought them should return to the shops for a full refund.
