The last time the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Rams played each other, it was a nail-biter that came down to the final minutes with the Lions finding a way to win at the end. It was almost the exact same formula eight months later, but this time we needed overtime to decide the winner.

Lions kicker Jake Bates hit a 32-yard field goal with 17 seconds left in the game to tie it at 20-20. Edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson sacked Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford to end regulation and send it to overtime.

In OT the Lions won the coin toss, took the football and never looked back.

Detroit's offense got chunk plays from Kalif Raymond (12 yards), David Montgomery (21, 9), Jahmyr Gibbs (10) and finally capped off their 26-20 win with a 1-yard touchdown run by Montgomery.

It was a great win for the Lions to start 1-0 on the season in a game where they lost a 17-3 second-half lead. In the end they found a way to make the winning plays, and that's what good teams do.

A First Half Lead

After both teams traded field goals to begin the scoring, Gibbs gave the Lions the first lead of the game with a 1-yard touchdown run with one minute, 57 seconds left in the first half.

The Lions took that 10-3 lead into the half thanks to a Kerby Joseph interception in the Lions' end zone with just 15 seconds left in the half after Stafford had guided the Rams into the red zone looking for some late first-half points.

A Big Third Quarter

The Lions increased the lead to 17-3 early in the third quarter on a 52-yard touchdown pass from Jared Goff to Jameson Williams down the left sideline. Williams battled through an illegal contact penalty on cornerback Tre'Davious White and still made the touchdown catch.

The Rams battled back, taking their next possession 70 yards in 11 plays on a nearly seven-minute drive capped off by a Kyren Williams 2-yard touchdown run to make it 17-10 late in the third quarter. The Rams converted a 4th & 3 at the Lions' 29-yard line on the drive.

A Fourth Quarter Fight

The Rams made it 17-13 early in the fourth quarter on a 26-yard field goal and then took the lead on a 9-yard touchdown pass from Stafford to wide receiver Cooper Kupp with four and a half minutes left in the game.

Bates tied it late and Montgomery won it in overtime for the Lions.

A Close Match

The game was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading blows throughout the game. The Rams were able to move the ball effectively against the Lions' defense, but the Lions were able to make just enough plays to come away with the victory.

A Strong Offensive Performance

The Lions' offense was led by quarterback Jared Goff, who completed 18 of his 28 pass attempts for 217 yards with one touchdown, one interception and an 85.0 passer rating. Goff was able to spread the ball around to his receivers, with Jameson Williams leading the way with five receptions for 121 yards and a touchdown. The Lions also had success on the ground, rushing for 163 yards as a team. David Montgomery led the way with 39 rushing yards and a touchdown, including the game-winning score in overtime.

The Rams' Performance

The Rams' offense was led by quarterback Matthew Stafford, who completed 34 of his 49 pass attempts for 317 yards with one touchdown, one interception and a passer rating of 85.2. Stafford was able to connect with his receivers, with Cooper Kupp leading the way with 14 receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown.

A Key Play

One of the key moments of the game came late in the second quarter, with the Lions leading 10-3. The Rams drove all the way to the Detroit 8-yard line with 21 seconds left in the half. Facing a second & goal, Stafford made an ill-advised throw off his back foot over the middle of the field in the end zone and Joseph made a terrific play to pick the ball off and down it in the end zone to preserve the Lions' lead.

A Tight Game

The Lions' victory was a hard-fought one, but it was a good sign for the team. The Lions were able to overcome a late deficit and win the game in overtime. The Lions are now 1-0 on the season, and they will look to continue their momentum next week.

Looking Ahead

The Lions will now turn their attention to their next opponent, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Buccaneers are coming off a win of their own, and they will be looking for revenge after losing to the Lions last season.

This game is sure to be a tough one, but the Lions will be looking to continue their winning ways. The Lions are a team on the rise, and they are looking to make a run for the playoffs.
