A Night of Art and Inspiration with Little Simz at Tate Modern Lates

Each month, Tate Modern Lates offer visitors a completely free evening of art, music, film, and more, offering the chance for like-minded people to come together in the heart of London’s cultural landscape. This coming Saturday 31st August, it returns launching a unique collaboration with award-winning rapper, singer, and actor Little Simz. Simz will take over the gallery with a specially curated evening of music, conversations, workshops, and good vibes!

Not only will she be showcasing her own inspirations and creative influences, but the night will include an exciting line-up celebrating London’s creative individuals, collectives, and cultures. This is more than just a concert; it’s an immersion into Simz’s artistic world, where music, visual art, and movement converge to create a truly unique experience.

Exploring Creativity and Collaboration

The event promises an eclectic mix of activities, reflecting Simz’s multifaceted approach to creativity. Visitors can engage in conversations with leading artists and thinkers, explore their own artistic potential through hands-on workshops, or simply lose themselves in the rhythm of the music. Simz herself will be in conversation with celebrated broadcaster Clara Amfo, delving into her inspirations, relationship with visual art, and creative journey in her beloved hometown of London. The conversation is sure to provide insights into Simz’s artistic process and the influences that have shaped her unique sound and style.

A Celebration of London’s Creative Talent

The night will feature a diverse lineup of London-based artists and creatives, each bringing their own unique perspectives and talents to the table. Renowned choreographer and movement director Kloé Dean, known for her work with Little Simz, will be hosting a unique dance workshop in the South Tank, inviting attendees to move their bodies and express themselves through dance. Following this, guests can dance along to DJ sets handpicked by Little Simz, with artists such as Tash LC, Keyrah, NARX, Donch, Drybabe, Nunguja, ELLADHC, and Laolu spinning tracks throughout the venue with drinks also supplied. This curated selection of DJs promises a vibrant and energetic soundtrack, reflecting Simz’s own eclectic taste in music.

An Evening of Artistic Exploration

For those seeking a deeper dive into the creative process, there are a number of workshops and talks on offer. Visionary artist and stage designer Es Devlin will be speaking about what inspires her as part of the night’s Art Chats, alongside other leading creatives including novelist Caleb Azumah Nelson and renowned painter, skateboarder, and artist Slawn. These conversations offer a rare glimpse into the minds of these creative giants, revealing their inspirations, challenges, and perspectives on the role of art in society.

For those looking to create their own art, multidisciplinary artist and illustrator Fiona Quadri will lead a Zine workshop, while Jadore Nicholas of JK Cartoon Studios will guide visitors in a cartoon coloring session and writer Caroline Adeyemi will unlock inner reflections through poetry and prose. These hands-on workshops offer a chance to explore different creative mediums and tap into your own inner artist.

A Space for Connection and Inspiration

The Swatch Social space, supported by Swatch, will be open throughout the night, providing a welcoming environment for attendees to connect, socialize, and unwind. Visitors can meet artist Elena Ooijman and take part in collective breathing and movement sessions, offering opportunities for self-reflection and relaxation. The overall atmosphere is designed to be inclusive and welcoming, fostering a sense of community and shared appreciation for art and creativity.
