Liverpool are closing in on an agreement to sign Juventus forward Federico Chiesa. The Premier League club have made travel arrangements for the Italy international to fly to Liverpool in order to complete the move. He will undergo a medical in Merseyside with personal terms in place on a four-year contract at Anfield. Liverpool are set to pay their Serie A counterparts a fee in the region of €13million (£10.9m), although the two clubs are yet to reach a full agreement. Should all go to plan, Chiesa will become Liverpool’s first summer signing under new head coach Arne Slot.

The Athletic reported on Tuesday that Liverpool were working to complete the signing of Chiesa before the transfer market shuts. News emerged on Monday that the Anfield club were exploring a deal for the attacker after the Italy winger was made available for a cut-price fee, given his terms expire in 2025. Having admired Chiesa for a number of years, Liverpool decided to capitalise on the situation. Chiesa, along with several first-team players, has been excluded from Thiago Motta’s Juventus squad. He initially joined Juventus on loan from Fiorentina in 2020, with the move becoming permanent for €50m (now £42.3m; $55.8m).

Last season, under former head coach Massimiliano Allegri, Chiesa was a key player for Juventus, scoring 10 goals and providing three assists in 37 appearances across all competitions. The 2023-24 campaign marked his first full season since recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in January 2022, which sidelined him for around nine months. Chiesa was a standout performer for Italy during their victorious European Championship campaign in 2021 and also played in the 2024 edition, where Italy was eliminated in the last 16. Since moving to Turin, Chiesa has netted 32 goals in 131 matches for Juventus, after scoring 34 times in 154 appearances for Fiorentina.

Why Do Liverpool Want Chiesa?

Liverpool’s interest in Chiesa stems from the manager’s admiration for the player. Liverpool are looking for a player who can stretch the pitch and get in behind like Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz. The Reds believe that Chiesa is a mobile and quick player who is capable of playing on either flank or in a front two, making him an ideal fit for the system that Arne Slot wants to implement at Anfield.

Would Chiesa Be a Good Fit For Liverpool?

Chiesa has proven himself at the highest level. He was a key player for Juventus and Italy, and he has the potential to be a star in the Premier League. However, Chiesa has had injury problems in recent years. He missed a year with a torn ACL, and he’s still getting back to his best after his recovery. This is a big risk for Liverpool. It remains to be seen whether Chiesa can stay fit and perform at a high level. But if he can, he would be a great addition to the Reds’ squad.

Could This Be a Bargain Deal?

Liverpool are getting Chiesa for a bargain price. The Reds are paying a fee of around €15m, which is significantly less than what Chiesa would have cost a few years ago.

This is a good deal for Liverpool. Chiesa is a proven player who can be a valuable asset to the Reds.

Will Liverpool Sign Another Player?

Liverpool’s transfer window has been relatively quiet so far, with the Reds only signing Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili. But the club is still looking to add to the squad before the window closes.

Liverpool are looking to add a central midfielder to the team, which they are reportedly still in the hunt for. But they are also interested in a few other players.

The Future Of The Team

Liverpool fans are excited about the arrival of Chiesa, but they are also aware that the Reds need to improve in other areas of the squad.

The Reds will need to be careful in the final week of the transfer window and make sure they get the right players to help them compete for trophies. This is a crucial time for the club, and it will be interesting to see what decisions they make.

A Final Word

Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Federico Chiesa, and he could be the final piece of the puzzle for the Reds’ squad. The Italian winger is a talented player who could be a huge asset for the club. But it is still unclear whether Chiesa will be able to stay fit and perform at a high level. Only time will tell if the signing of Chiesa is a success for Liverpool.
