Man Arrested After Driving Stolen Car in Bethel: Multiple Break-Ins Linked
Police in South Australia have arrested a man after he was found driving a stolen car in Bethel. The arrest came after a series of break-ins were reported in the region, with the man now facing charges for multiple offenses.
According to the South Australian Police, a 41-year-old man from Bright was located by Nuriootpa Police at Bethel on Friday, August 30, driving a stolen Ford Ranger with unassigned plates. Investigations revealed that this vehicle had been stolen during a break-in at Saddleworth back in March of this year.
The man was also identified as a suspect in a separate break-in that occurred in Steinfeld in December 2023. As a result of this investigation, the man was arrested and subsequently charged with two counts of serious criminal trespass and illegal use of a motor vehicle.
Stolen Goods Recovered
On Monday, September 2, authorities executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence in Bright. During the search, a significant amount of stolen items were discovered, linked to break-ins at Templers, Steinfeld, and Saddleworth. The recovered items included a trailer, a ride-on lawnmower, two motorbikes, a substantial amount of saddlery, power tools, antiques, an air compressor, and generators. All of these items have been identified by the victims of the break-ins.
Ongoing Investigation
While the investigation has yielded significant results, police are still seeking information regarding a third motorbike – a white Honda CRF110F – which is suspected to have been stolen. The investigation into this matter is ongoing.
The arrest of this individual underscores the ongoing efforts of the South Australian Police to address property crime in the region. The recovery of stolen items, including the identification and return of these items to their rightful owners, is a testament to the commitment of law enforcement officials to bring perpetrators to justice.
A Suspect's Residence, More Than Stolen Goods
During the search of the suspect's residence, police made another discovery: six cannabis plants were found growing naturally in the rear yard. This discovery has added another layer to the investigation, with the potential for additional charges related to drug cultivation.
The suspect was refused bail and remanded in custody. This decision reflects the seriousness of the alleged offenses and the potential risk posed by the suspect to the community.
Continuing the Investigation
The South Australian Police are continuing their investigation into the series of break-ins. They are appealing to anyone with information regarding these incidents to come forward. The public is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit their website at www.crimestopperssa.com.au.
