Detectives in Newry are investigating a report that a man was attacked by a gang armed with baseball bats last night. Police received a report shortly after 10.20pm that a man, in his 30’s, had been attacked in the Helens Terrace area. Officers arrived at the scene and found the man lying on the ground with injuries to his arms and legs. He was taken to hospital and is receiving treatment for his injuries.

A dark blue car, possibly an Audi estate, was seen leaving the area shortly after the assault. Officers at the scene were made also aware of damage to windows at a property nearby at Clanrye Avenue and believe both incidents may be linked.

Police Investigate Possible Link to Property Damage

The incident occurred on Tuesday night in the Helen’s Terrace area of Newry. Police were called to the scene after receiving a report that a man had been attacked by a number of males armed with baseball bats. Upon arrival, officers found the victim lying on the ground with injuries to his arms and legs. He was taken to hospital for treatment, and a dark blue car, possibly an Audi estate, was seen leaving the area shortly after the assault.

While investigating the attack, police were made aware of damage to windows at a property located nearby on Clanrye Avenue. The authorities believe there may be a connection between the assault and the property damage.

They are also requesting that anyone with relevant information, or who may have captured dashcam or CCTV footage that could assist in their investigation, to contact them at Ardmore on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 1684 10/09/24.

A Night of Violence in Newry

The assault on the man in Newry is the latest in a string of violent incidents in the city. Earlier this year, a man was taken to hospital with head injuries following an assault in Belfast, and a man was left in a critical condition after an alleged one-punch assault.

These incidents highlight the need for increased security measures in the city and for the police to crack down on violent crime. The community is urged to come forward with any information that could assist police in their investigation.
