If you do not want to catch the featured Pokémon, you can make use of the 2x Transfer Candy bonus in other ways.
Mankey's Stats and Moves
Mankey is a Fighting-type Pokémon in Pokémon GO, with a maximum Combat Power of 1317 CP. Mankey best moveset in Pokémon GO is Karate Chop and Cross Chop.

If you’re shiny hunting during this spotlight, this is thankfully an easy one to spot! Mankey’s beige/brown colouring turns green!
Mega Evolution for Extra Bonuses
The following Pokémon will grant you extra bonuses when catching Mankey if they are Mega-evolved.
- Mega Lopunny (Fairy-type)
- Mega Lucario (Fighting-type)
- Mega Machamp (Fighting-type)
- Mega Heracross (Bug/Fighting-type)
- Mega Blaziken (Fire/Fighting-type)
While a Pokémon is Mega-Evolved, additional XP and Candy are granted when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it, or for any raid boss caught. These do not stack with each other. Additionally, High and Max Level Mega-Evolved Pokémon grant an increased chance to obtain Candy XL when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it.

How to Get Mankey in Pokémon GO
The methods to obtain Mankey and Shiny Mankey in Pokemon GO are the same, but the likelihood of finding the latter is quite rare. Mankey and several other Pocket Monsters were introduced with the launch of the mobile game in 2016. However, it was not until March 5, 2019, that Shiny Mankey debuted as part of the Battle Showdown 2019 event.
Back then, fans wanted to get their hands on the Pokemon so that they could evolve the creatures into their respective versions of Primeape. However, today, the final form of Mankey, Annihilape, is what attracts trainers to hunt for it in the game.
Now, we will take a close look at all the known ways you can acquire Mankey and Shiny Mankey in Pokemon GO.
Spotlight Hour
The Pokemon GO Mankey Spotlight event will increase the wild spawn rate of this monster for one hour straight on August 20, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM local time. You can participate in it to get Mankey and Candies, consumables that help you trigger its evolution.
Cloudy Weather
Nevertheless, if you are unable to encounter Mankey during events, you can visit locations that naturally boost its wild spawn rate. The areas in which this boost is applicable are those that experience Cloudy weather conditions.
Lure Modules and Incense
It would also be a great strategy if you could activate the Lure Modules by attaching them to PokeStops and turning on Incense in Cloudy weather to lure Mankey in Pokemon GO.
Egg Hatching
Egg hatching is a process by which a trainer can get a certain Pocket Monster. Mankey has only been featured three times in 5 KM eggs over the course of years since its release. From this, we can assume that the creature is less likely to be encountered by hatching items.
Raids
Mankey is a solo Fighting-type Pokemon from the Kanto region, so, you will need counters that know Fairy, Flying, and Psychic-type attacks to defeat it in raids. These deal 160% damage to the Raid Boss. That said, use the following counters to take down Mankey in Pokemon GO raids:
- Gardevoir (Fairy-type)
- Alakazam (Psychic-type)
- Mewtwo (Psychic-type)
- Espeon (Psychic-type)
- Gengar (Ghost/Poison-type)
- Chandelure (Ghost/Fire-type)
- Togekiss (Fairy/Flying-type)
- Azumarill (Fairy/Water-type)
- Mega Gardevoir (Fairy-type)
- Mega Alakazam (Psychic-type)
- Mega Gengar (Ghost/Poison-type)
Research Tasks
Research tasks can be completed to earn different valuable rewards, including encounters with Pokemon. You will get certain research stories that offer an encounter with a Mankey in the game, but you will have to finish them before getting to catch the Pokemon.
Trading
The last option you have left to add this Pig Monkey Pokemon to your collection is to ask your Pokemon GO friends to trade the critter. Please make a note that trading among friends is only possible when you are within a 100-meter distance.
How to Get Shiny Mankey in Pokémon GO
Shiny Mankey is more appealing and attractive than normal Mankey, but both are obtained in a similar way in Pokemon GO. These methods are as follows:
Spotlight Hour
This is your best chance to find a Shiny Mankey. The increased spawn rate during Spotlight Hour means you'll encounter more Mankey, increasing your odds of finding a Shiny.
Cloudy Weather
Cloudy weather boosts the spawn rate of Mankey, so you'll have more chances to encounter both regular and Shiny Mankey.
Lure Modules and Incense
Lure Modules and Incense can further boost the spawn rate of Mankey in Cloudy weather, giving you even more opportunities to find a Shiny.
Egg Hatching
While Mankey has been in 5 KM eggs in the past, it's less common now. It's possible, but less likely, to find a Shiny Mankey from an egg.
Raids
Raids are not a reliable way to find Shiny Mankey. It's possible but very rare. Focus on other methods.
Research Tasks
Research tasks can sometimes offer encounters with Mankey, but you won't know if it's Shiny until you catch it. It's not a guaranteed way to find a Shiny.
Trading
You can trade with friends for Shiny Mankey. However, keep in mind that the odds of finding a Shiny Mankey through trading depend on the other player's luck.
Tips for Shiny Hunting
- Use a Lucky Egg: A Lucky Egg doubles your XP for 30 minutes, so you can level up faster while you hunt for Shiny Mankey.
- Use Incense: Incense attracts Pokémon to you for 30 minutes, increasing your chance of encountering more Mankey.
- Use Lure Modules: Lure Modules attract Pokémon to a PokéStop for 30 minutes. Place a Lure Module on a PokéStop in a high-traffic area to attract more Mankey.
- Check for Cloudy Weather: Cloudy weather boosts the spawn rate of Mankey, so keep an eye on the weather forecast.
- Don't Give Up: Shiny hunting can be a long and tedious process. Don't get discouraged if you don't find a Shiny Mankey right away. Keep at it, and eventually, you'll get lucky!
Catching Shiny Mankey: A Rewarding Experience
Whether you're aiming for a powerful Annihilape or a rare Shiny Mankey, the Pokémon GO Mankey Spotlight Hour is an excellent opportunity for any trainer. Enjoy the event, and remember to share your shiny hunting stories with fellow trainers!
