Republic of Ireland international Megan Connolly has joined Italian side S.S. Lazio on a free transfer. The 27-year-old midfielder, who captained Bristol City last season, makes the move after the expiration of her contract with the English club.

Lazio, who were Serie B champions last season, will open their 2024/25 Serie A campaign against Roma on August 30. Connolly will be looking to make an immediate impact at her new club and help them establish themselves in the top flight of Italian women’s football.

Connolly started her senior career with College Corinthians in her native Ireland before moving to the United States in 2015, where she combined her studies at Florida State University with playing for the Florida State Seminoles.

After graduating from Florida State, Connolly joined Brighton & Hove Albion in 2019. She spent four seasons at the Amex Stadium, making 63 appearances in the Women’s Super League and scoring four goals.

Connolly moved to Bristol City last summer and was immediately named captain. She was a key player for the Robins, helping them reach the Women’s Super League Cup final. Despite her impressive performances, Bristol City were relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.
