Melania Trump, the former First Lady, has issued a statement ahead of her husband's most-awaited debate with Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. Melania, who made a muted showing at the Republican National Convention, blasted the Biden administration over the high cost of living and attempts to “silence my husband”.

Taking to X, Melania shared a black and white video, making it clear where she stands in Trump's fight to retake the White House. The video begins with Melania, stating: “The 2020 election results changed our lives forever. It impacted our quality of life, cost of food, gasoline, safety and even the geopolitical landscape.”

She went on to claim that “America is more divided today” than it has ever been before and then talked about the legal troubles faced by the former president. “It has become increasingly apparent that there are significant challenges to free speech as demonstrated by the efforts to silence my husband.”

In a new video promoting her upcoming memoir, Melania Trump ripped into the Biden administration over the high cost of living and addressed apparent “efforts to silence” her husband, former President Donald Trump. The former first lady posted the short clip Sunday where she quickly criticized the state of the nation under President Biden without directly mentioning the Democrat’s name, insisting tensions around the world are elevated since her spouse was voted out of office.

“The 2020 election results changed our lives forever,” she narrated as the words appeared on the screen. “It impacted our quality of life, cost of food, gasoline, safety, and even the geopolitical landscape.”

The country has struggled to combat inflation during Biden’s tenure while wars between Russia and Ukraine, and between Israel and Hamas, have gripped the world.

Melania Trump, 54, then argued the country is “more divided today than ever before” while raising the alarm over concerns about free speech in the US.

“It has become increasingly apparent that there are significant challenges to free speech as demonstrated by efforts to silence my husband,” she said in the rare public statement.

Trump was slapped with a gag order in his Manhattan hush money trial where he was convicted of 34 felony counts in June.

Trial Judge Juan Merchan extended parts of the gag order until Trump’s sentencing after he initially enacted it over concerns about the GOP nominee’s habit of attacking people involved in the case.

Trump, 78, was fined $10,000 for violations during the trial and was threatened with jail time if he continued.

Trump’s social media accounts were also deactivated shortly after the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, though he is again allowed to tweet and post on Facebook.

Melania Trump ramped up promotion for her new memoir, titled “Melania,” last week. She said she hopes to give readers “the truth,” claiming she’s been a victim of “misrepresentation” during her spouse’s time in the spotlight.

“As a private person who has often been the subject of public scrutiny and misrepresentation, I feel a responsibility to clarify the facts,” she said.

Her book is available for preorder for $40 with an Oct. 8 release date. Donald Trump’s third bid for the White House, this time against Vice President Kamala Harris, is set for Nov. 5.

Melania Trump has had her say on the current cost of living crisis, political divisiveness across the US and the Biden administration’s alleged attempts to “silence” husband, in a new video plugging her tell-all, self-titled memoir. The former first lady has been noticeably absent from her husband’s presidential campaign trail and numerous court appearances across 2024. Her brief appearance at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee in July marked one in a handful of times she has stood by her husband’s side since he relaunched his re-election campaign.

Now, the 54-year-old former model has now decided to use it as a springboard to promote her upcoming book, Melania. Sharing a video to X on Sunday, the former first lady commented on the state of the US since her husband lost the 2020 election to President Joe Biden – all before her monochrome book flashes onto the screen.

“The 2020 election results changed our lives forever,” Melania began in her narration over the black and white, text-first promo video released on Sunday.

“It impacted our quality of life, cost of food, gasoline, safety and even the geopolitical landscape,” she continued.

Melania didn’t appear once at Trump’s five-week long criminal hush money trial earlier this year, which saw the former president convicted of all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records after payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels to quash affair rumors. Donald Trump denies all the charges and also denies having an affair with Daniels.

However, the former first lady claimed that her husband has been impeded by a lack of free speech – hinting at a gag order issued by Justice Juan Merchan, the judge presiding over the New York criminal case, which prevents Trump from speaking about people involved in the case.

Trump’s lawyers also argued “free speech” in a separate failed attempt to have charges against the former president thrown out in Georgia over his election interference case.

“America is more divided today than ever before. It has become increasingly apparent that there are significant challenges to free speech, as demonstrated by the efforts to silence my husband,” Melania concludes before an image of her upcoming memoir bursts onto the screen. Her latest video plug marks a second social media advert in a week, as she ramps up publicity ahead of publication on September 24.

The book is billed on Melania’s website as an “intimate portrait of a woman who has lived an extraordinary life”. In a separate advert for last week, the former model said that she was a “private person” and the book presented an opportunity for her to tell her “truth”.

Melania Trump sort of teased her upcoming memoir again Sunday in a text-based video with voiceover, in which she bemoans the cost of living in America and attempts to “silence” her husband, former President Donald Trump, before a cut to an image of the cover of Melania. “The 2020 election results changed our lives forever,” said Melania in the video, posted to her X account Sunday, with each word illustrated in an italicized serif font. “It impacted our quality of life, cost of food, gasoline, safety and even the geopolitical landscape.”

Despite the global inflation of recent years, Melania, who lives in a three-floor NYC penthouse apartment decorated in 24-carat gold and marble, will likely survive the cost of fuel at the pump. According to The Art of Her Deal: The Untold Story of Melania Trump by Washington Post journalist Mary Jordan, she used the fallout from infidelity and assault allegations against her husband to negotiate a more favorable prenuptial agreement, which she described as “taking care of Barron,” their now-18-year-old son.

“America is more divided today than ever before,” Melania added in the new video, backed by the same orchestral muzak that was used in promo of the memoir last week. “It has become increasingly apparent that there are significant challenges to free speech as demonstrated by the efforts to silence my husband.” Donald Trump’s lawyers argued “free speech” in a failed attempt to get election interference charges against him thrown out in Georgia, while the former president has also decried gag orders in his other various legal cases.

The video seemingly offered little to no new information on what Melania the memoir will reveal about its author. Melania’s website says the pamphlet-thin book contains “stories and images never before shared with the public”—presumably those stories aren’t about the cost of food and gas. In true Trump fashion, former president Donald Trump’s wife is hawking a signed “collector’s edition” of her book for $150. Melania Trump teased the upcoming release of her memoir, Melania, in a dramatic black-and-white video posted to X Thursday morning. “Writing this memoir has been a deeply personal and reflective journey for me,” said the former first lady and spouse of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, backed by generic inspirational symphonic music. “As a private person, who has often been the subject of personal scrutiny and misrepresentation, I feel a responsibility to clarify the facts.”

While Melania resented past reports that she is “shy,” according to Washington Post journalist Mary Jordan’s The Art of Her Deal, she has remained elusive to outsiders throughout her husband’s political career. Opting for a lower profile than other presidential spouses, she has made fewer public appearances than is the norm, including as Donald Trump takes on Vice President Kamala Harris in this year’s presidential election. Several people in Trumpworld reportedly begged her to speak at July’s Republican National Convention, but she refused and chose to accompany her husband in their VIP box. Former White House communications director-turned-thorn-in-Trump’s-side Anthony Scaramucci, however, reiterated earlier this week claims that Melania “hates” her husband and wants him to lose in November. “I believe it is important to share my perspective: the truth,” said Melania, in the teaser video for the memoir which, in images on her personal website, looks novella-thin. There is limited information available on the site as to what the memoir will cover. “Melania is the powerful and inspiring story of a woman who has defined personal excellence, overcome adversity, and carved her own path,” a description reads. “The former First Lady invites readers into her world, offering an intimate portrait of a woman who has lived an extraordinary life.” No telling if that intimate portrait will confirm her husband’s reported annoyance when she speaks with their son in her native Slovenian—multilingual Barron just matriculated at NYU.

While political memoirs are a tried and true election season tradition, Melania releases at a time when the author’s husband is under fire for hawking a baffling array of products—from sneakers to perfume to trading cards—for personal gain. Among those products are Trump-branded Bibles, a signed copy of which will set a member of the faithful back $1,000. For the frugal consumer, Melania might make a better purchase: a signed copy is just $75. A signed “Collector's Edition”—“printed on premium art paper with a special custom white binding” and “adorned with black foil, blocking, and a ribbon marker”—is $150.
