Michigan State Football Suffers Major Injury Blow Ahead of Boston College Game

Michigan State football’s game against Boston College was already going to be extremely difficult, but it just got a lot harder.

The Spartans are already suffering from a lot of key injuries this season, so much so that my confidence in the team (which was extremely high all offseason) has decreased slightly. But now, just one day before MSU takes on Boston College, two more injuries have surfaced that are major blows to the Spartans' offense.

The expectation is that Michigan State will be without two starting receivers — Nick Marsh and Jaron Glover — tomorrow vs. Boston College due to injuries, sources tell @247Sports/@CBSSports.Marsh, a top-100 Class of 2024 recruit, leads MSU with 232 receiving yards. Wide receivers Nick Marsh and Jaron Glover are both against Boston College as they deal with lingering injuries. The good news is that these injuries don’t sound too serious, especially Marsh who is rumored to know already that he’ll be back in time for the Ohio State game next week. But losing both players this week is extremely detrimental.

The Spartans' wide receiver room was already lacking experience, and now they’re losing a guy in Marsh who leads the team in receiving yards, and Glover who caught six passes for 84 yards and a touchdown against Maryland.

So there’s no denying that this news decreases Michigan State’s chances of beating Boston College. But how much of a decrease is the question.

Michigan State opened as a 6.5-point underdog to Boston College and now they actually sit as 5.5-point underdogs according to DraftKings, so this news hasn’t impacted anything in a negative way according to Vegas. But it’s hard to imagine that’s the case in the real world instead of the betting world.

Initially when I saw this news I hit the panic button and gave MSU little chance at beating the Eagles. But as I think more about it I’m starting to believe that they still can win. Even with Marsh and Glover out, the Spartans still have plenty of options at wideout. Montorie Foster Jr. is still healthy and is the Spartans' No. 1 wide receiver on the team even when these guys are healthy. MSU also has Aziah Johnson who has three catches for 72 yards and a touchdown this year who I think will be ready to make a bigger impact. Then there’s Antonio Gates Jr. who hasn’t seen the field much but is someone I’m very high on who I think can fill in nicely.

You also have to factor in Michigan State’s star running back duo of Nate Carter and Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams. Earlier this week it sounded like Jonathan Smith wanted to lean heavily on the run game, so that clearly won’t change at all with this news.

So long story short, there’s no denying that it is now tougher for Michigan State to win this game, but I don’t think the sky is falling like I originally thought. I still am predicting Michigan State to lose, but I thought that before this news and I still think it will only be by a couple points.

Let’s hope however that I get proven wrong.
