Missing Man's Family Renews Plea for Information One Year After Disappearance in Cork

Gardaí have renewed an appeal for information on the whereabouts of a man who went missing in Cork City in 2023. John Keaveney, 43, was last seen near Centre Park Road on August 21 last year.

Mr Keaveney, who lives in Dublin, was on holiday in East Cork with his wife and three daughters when he suffered an epileptic episode. He presented at Cork University Hospital for treatment on August 20.

He discharged himself from CUH at around 9.30pm that evening and headed towards Wilton Shopping Centre. His family believes the seizure may have left him confused in the hours afterwards.

His family reported him missing and gardaí issued an official missing persons appeal for him on Tuesday, August 22.

They said that when last seen, Mr Keaveney was wearing a pair of navy trousers, a grey Umbro hoodie with the Irish soccer logo and white runners.

At the time of the missing person appeal being issued, gardaí said Mr Keaveney had last been seen in the early hours of August 21, just after midnight in the McCurtain Street area of the city.

He was later seen walking down toward Centre Park Road/Marina area of the city. Gardaí said this was the last sighting of Mr Keaveney.

Renewed Appeal for Information

Gardaí on Tuesday renewed their appeal for information, saying they and Mr Keaveney's family are very concerned for his welfare.

John Keaveney is described as being approximately 5 foot 9 inches in height with a slim build. He is bald and has brown eyes.

The last sighting of John was walking down towards Centre Park Road / Marina Area of Cork city. He was wearing a pair of navy trousers, a grey Umbro hoodie with the Irish soccer logo and white runners.
