Mike Lynch, who went missing after a luxury yacht capsized this week, believed that dogs possess mind-reading abilities, a journalist has claimed. Lynch, 59, vanished after the Bayesian sank off the coast of Sicily on August 20. Jonathan Margolis, a consumer tech journalist, recounted meeting the businessman years prior for an article on Lynch's fascination with dogs' potential "sixth sense".

Mr Lynch knew that Jonathan had authored a book on renowned mentalist Uri Geller and he sought his expertise for launching a study into the peculiar canine capability.

Writing for The Independent, Margolis detailed how Mr Lynch was convinced dogs were aware of events beyond the realm of normal senses - such as knowing when someone is on their way home from work, reports the Express.

Lynch shared with Jonathan an anecdote about his own pets: "I've done this informal experiment many times. I'll get on a train in London for our house in Suffolk and at that exact second, they will get excited."

The missing entrepreneur explained further: "My wife and I have ruled out as many possible clues as we can. She'll note the moment they start barking and it will match up with me stepping onto the train."

Despite his firm roots in science and scepticism about the paranormal, Lynch admitted: "I'm not a parapsychologist or a paranormalist. I don't believe in auras or energies or anything weird. I'm firmly entrenched in science, and I know this is controversial, but there's an effect out there that needs explaining."

The billionaire implored Jonathan to pen a column inviting the public to share tales of their psychic dogs and to aid in establishing a website aimed at creating a "database" for canines.

The writer recounted how Mr Lynch spoke about his theories for nearly an hour and a half and detailed his belief in dogs' innate talent for "reading" human emotions.

He further enlightened the journalist about dogs having "mirror neurons" in their brains, which enable humans to empathise by putting themselves in "someone else's shoes".

Mr Lynch said grasping "probability" is crucial, yet he insisted it's "time" for a thorough redo of experiments to verify if dogs can produce "statistically meaningful" outcomes.

The Search for Answers

In the wake of the superyacht sinking, Mr Lynch, along with other passengers, remains missing, sparking concerns that individuals may be trapped inside the unrecovered vessel. The body of chef Recaldo Thomas has been found, however.

Still unaccounted for are Mr Lynch's 18-year-old daughter, Hannah; Jonathan Bloomer, the chairman of Morgan Stanley International; his wife, Judy; attorney Chris Morvillo; and his spouse, Neda Morvillo.

The incident has prompted a search and rescue operation, with authorities working tirelessly to locate the missing individuals. The investigation is ongoing, and the cause of the capsizing is still under scrutiny.

A Legacy of Innovation

Beyond the tragic circumstances of his disappearance, Mike Lynch's story is one of extraordinary ambition and intellectual curiosity. He built a successful technology company, Autonomy, which was eventually acquired by HP for a staggering $11.7 billion. However, the deal later became embroiled in controversy, leading to a protracted legal battle.

Lynch's expertise in Bayesian mathematics, a field that deals with probability and how to update beliefs based on new information, played a crucial role in his success. It's a field he clearly applied to his own life, as he navigated both the complexities of the tech world and the challenges of navigating legal battles.

An Unconventional Passion

Despite his successes in the realm of technology, Lynch's passion for understanding the world around him extended beyond the digital sphere. His fascination with dogs' potential psychic abilities reveals a side of him that was deeply curious about the mysteries of nature and the potential for human-animal connection.

This unconventional interest reveals a depth of character beyond the image of a successful tech mogul. The irony of his tragic disappearance on a yacht named after the Bayesian theorem is not lost on those who knew him. While the search for Lynch continues, it remains to be seen what his legacy will be. But it's clear he was a man who dared to think outside the box and explore the unknown, both in the world of technology and in his personal life.
