Lincoln Motorcyclist Critically Injured in Collision with Delivery Van
The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) is investigating a serious injury crash that occurred on Saturday, September 21st, just after noon. The crash involved a motorcycle and a delivery van, leaving the motorcyclist with life-threatening injuries. The incident took place on the Pioneers Boulevard access road, between Nebraska Parkway and 33rd Street in southeast Lincoln.
According to LPD, a white Dodge delivery van driven by a 35-year-old Omaha man was traveling eastbound on the access road. The van driver made a left turn, directly into the path of a westbound motorcycle. The impact occurred on the rear passenger side of the van.
The motorcyclist, a 56-year-old Lincoln man, was rushed to a local hospital for emergency surgery. LPD stated his injuries are considered life-threatening, but thankfully he was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The van driver was uninjured in the collision.
Investigation Underway, Impairment Not Suspected
LPD said the van driver voluntarily submitted to a drug recognition expert evaluation, but no signs of impairment were detected at the scene. However, charges against the van driver are pending the completion of the investigation.
