Today is National Daughter's Day.  If you're a dad, bonding with your daughter might be tough.  But here are some things that you can do with her that you'll both love.

National Daughter's Day is a day set aside to provide an opportunity to show your daughter genuine support, encouragement, and love.  It's a day to celebrate them and spend time with them.

While it's not the case for all dads, for some dads, this can be tough.  Showing emotion isn't always the easiest thing for some guys to do. Whether it's societal norms, or just their upbringing, it can be tough to let people know how they feel.

Being a dad to a daughter really is the best thing in the world.  Even if it seems like it's just for a short time, you get to be their hero.  You're often the strongest person they know and they think that you can fix literally anything.  You are their protector.

If you do it right, as they grow, they can become all those things for themselves.  You can teach them to fix anything and they will no longer need you (as much) to be their protector because with your encouragement they can become the strongest person they know.

If you have a daughter, today is a big day.  Celebrate them.  Encourage them and help them grow.  Build those relationships with them because there's nothing more important than that.  Want some advice on some easy ways to celebrate?  Check out 10 ways to celebrate National Daughter's Day here:

Spending Quality Time

National Daughters Day started far away from Kentucky but the United States adopted the day in recent years to honor the mother-daughter bond.

It's not to be confused with National Sons and Daughters Day, which is celebrated every year on Aug. 11.

Marking the occasion does not have to be an expensive and elaborate plan. There are different ways to observe National Daughter's Day:

Ideas for Celebrating National Daughters Day

Daughters are always special members of the family. They are a brother's favorite person to pull pranks on and a ray of sunshine in so many parents' lives.

Here's a list of all the familial-themed holidays:

Ways to celebrate National Daughters Day:

  1. Take your daughter out for a meal or activity - Whether is going on a walk in one of Louisville's many parks or going out to eat, there is no shortage of ways for mothers (or any other parent or guardian who serves as such) to celebrate National Daughters Day with their child.
  2. Write a heartfelt letter or card - Share your love and appreciation for your daughter in a tangible way. You can express your pride in her accomplishments and the joy she brings to your life.
  3. Make a special homemade treat together - Spend quality time with your daughter in the kitchen and bake something delicious. This can be a fun activity for all ages.
  4. Spend time with your daughter doing an activity she loves - If your daughter enjoys playing a sport, reading, or participating in a specific hobby, spend time with her doing what she loves. This is a great way to show your support and create lasting memories.
  5. Have a movie marathon with popcorn and snacks - Gather cozy blankets and watch your daughter's favorite movies or TV shows. It's a great opportunity to bond and share laughter.
  6. Give her a gift that she'll cherish - Consider a thoughtful gift that reflects her interests or personality. It doesn't have to be expensive, but it should be something she'll appreciate and remember.
  7. Volunteer together for a cause that she cares about - Give back to the community as a family and make a positive impact. This can be a rewarding and meaningful way to spend National Daughters Day.
  8. Have a spa day at home - Create a relaxing atmosphere with candles and soothing music. Give each other manicures, pedicures, or facials. It's a perfect way to pamper yourselves and bond.
  9. Share stories and memories - Take time to reflect on past experiences and share stories from your lives. This can be a meaningful way to strengthen your bond and appreciate each other's history.
  10. Write a letter to your daughter about your hopes and dreams for her future - This is a gift that she can cherish for years to come. Express your love and support, and encourage her to pursue her passions and goals.

Words of Encouragement and Wisdom

If you are a parent, consider taking your daughter out on a date, either for a meal or to a park, to celebrate on Wednesday. It'll probably earn you brownie points at home. Mothers, especially, can use today as a special reason to connect with their daughters, having likely lived a similar experience. Today, moms can share words of encouragement and wisdom.

It's Not Too Late To Celebrate

National Daughters Day is celebrated every year on Sept. 25. It is a day to celebrate the gift of daughters, and the relationships we share with them.

Everyone in a family will share a different relationship with a daughter. Mothers and fathers especially share different but special relationships with their daughters, which is celebrated.

To all the brothers out there who are jealous of their sisters, don't fret, your holiday is coming up soon. National Sons Day is celebrated every year on Sept. 28.

If your sisters get pampered today, don't worry, it's only a few days until it will be your turn.

Parents, you already had your share of celebrations this year. But it's never too early to look ahead at Mother's and Father's Day dates next year.

A Look At Other Family Holidays

There are also plenty of other holidays to celebrate familial bloodlines. Though some can seem confusing or unnecessary, they all are intended to celebrate the ones we love.

Here's an explanation of National Daughters Day, and a list of similar national holidays.

Sept. 25 is National Daughters Day, according to National Day Calendar.

National Daughters Day was first observed in India where daughters were often less valued than sons and consequently received less attention. It was adopted in the U.S. in the early 2000s to honor the unique bond between parents and their daughters.
