The National Television Awards (NTAs) returned to our screens last night, with presenter Joel Dommett returning as host for another year. The NTAs celebrate some of the biggest shows in Britain, including Strictly Come Dancing, This Morning, Emmerdale and Bridgerton. This year the ITV event took place at the O2 London at 8pm on Wednesday, September 11. I’m A Celeb winner Sam Thompson and his TOWIE star pal Pete Wicks also hosted the red carpet, reports the Mirror.
The 2024 NTAs saw both some big winners and surprise snubs, with Mr Bates vs The Post Office landing some major accolades. Meanwhile, Ant and Dec again picked up the Best Television Presenter prize - and Strictly stayed on top despite recent controversies.
Mr Bates vs The Post Office Wins Big
The ITV drama, Mr Bates vs The Post Office, which brought renewed attention to the Horizon IT scandal, won two of the most prestigious awards, New Drama and Impact Award. The four-part miniseries saw off tough competition from Netflix hit Baby Reindeer, romantic drama One Day, and thrillers Fool Me Once and Red Eye.
Toby Jones secured the best drama performance gong for his role as former sub-postmaster Sir Alan Bates, one of more than 550 claimants who have brought legal action against the Post Office.
Emmerdale Reigns Supreme in Serial Drama
Ant and Dec Continue Their Reign as Best Television Presenters
Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly continued their reign as kings of TV presenting as they won the gong for a historic 23rd year in a row.
Collecting the gong, Donnelly said: “Thank you - it’s really hard to put into words just how this feels and what it means to us that you take the time to vote for us.”
McPartlin described the gong as a “joy” and joked that one day they will not collect it, but tonight was not the night.
They also thanked their teams and families before reflecting on how their lives have changed over the years, especially since becoming fathers.
The duo kicked off their successful night by picking up the Bruce Forsyth entertainment award for the reality series I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, which they host.
Kate Garraway: Derek's Story Wins Best Authored Documentary
