Knockout Stage Odds Update

The Olympic volleyball and beach volleyball tournaments have reached the knockout stage, bringing excitement and anticipation as teams battle for the coveted gold medal. We delve into the latest odds, analyzing the favorites and surprise contenders in both indoor and beach volleyball.

Indoor Volleyball: Italy Rises as the New Favorite

Italy has emerged as the betting favorite for the men's indoor volleyball gold medal, with odds set at +350. Their odds have improved since the group stage, pushing Poland to second place with the same odds. Italy's performance in the group stage has clearly impressed the oddsmakers, giving them a 22.22% chance of winning the tournament.

Seven of the eight teams who were favorites in the pre-tournament odds have advanced to the quarterfinals, indicating the odds were fairly accurate. The sole exception is Canada, who failed to advance after going 0-3 in the group stage.

Women's Volleyball: Italy Still in the Lead

Italy remains the favorite for the women's indoor volleyball gold medal, holding the top spot with odds of +200, which translates to a 33.33% implied probability of winning. Their pre-tournament odds were +275, so they have seen a slight improvement in their odds after the group stage.

Like the men's tournament, seven of the top eight teams from the pre-tournament odds list have advanced to the knockout stage. The only outlier is Japan, who finished eighth in the odds list but failed to advance. In their place, the Dominican Republic has secured a spot in the knockout stage. The Dominican Republic had the third-longest odds of winning gold before the group stage, with odds of +6500.

Beach Volleyball: A Predictable Path So Far

The beach volleyball competition has seen a relatively predictable path, with most of the pre-tournament favorites progressing through the Round of 16. The top nine teams in the pre-tournament odds list are still in contention halfway through the Round of 16.

Men's Beach Volleyball: New Contenders Emerge

David Ahman and Jonatan Hellvig entered the tournament as the +100 betting favorites, but their odds have since dropped to +250 after going 1-2 in the group stage. Despite this, they have advanced to the quarterfinals after winning a Round of 16 match. They now share the favorites' spot with Christian Sorum and Anders Mol of Norway, who went 3-0 in the group stage. Sorum and Mol will face Miles Evans and Chase Budinger in the Round of 16.

Andre Stein and George Wanderley, the pre-tournament third favorites at 10-1, were eliminated in the Round of 16 by Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler of Germany.

Women's Beach Volleyball: Favorites Remain Strong

The pre-tournament favorites, Ana Patricia Ramos and Duda Lisboa, have improved their odds to +140. They are still in the Round of 16, and will next face Miki Ishii and Akiko Hasegawa of Japan, who had the longest odds to win gold pre-tournament among all teams.

The Final Showdown Awaits

As the knockout stage unfolds, the pressure intensifies for all teams. Expect unexpected upsets and thrilling matches as teams fight for their chance to stand on the Olympic podium. The journey to gold is far from over, and the race is on to determine who will be crowned champion in both indoor and beach volleyball. The Olympic spotlight shines bright, and the world is watching, eager to witness history in the making.
