18 More Gold Medals Up for Grabs in Paris on the Sixth Day of the 2024 Olympics.
Simone Biles is back in action as she bids for a second gold of the Games in the women's all-around final at Bercy Arena. Although USA teammate Sunisa Lee will be looking to deny Biles by defending her Olympic title in the same event.
Meanwhile, the golf takes center stage this morning as the world's best aim to wrestle Xander Schauffele's title away from him after his victory in Tokyo.
Attention will, once again, turn to La Defense in the evening where there are four more finals in the pool. USA's Ryan Murphy and Hungary's Hubert Kos are expected to be the frontrunners for the 200m backstroke title.
Over at Roland Garros in the tennis, American Tommy Paul faces Carlos Alcaraz in the men's singles before teaming up with Taylor Fritz in the men's doubles against British pair Andy Murray and Dan Evans.
Golf
Japan's Hideki Matsuyama leads on the first day of the golf at Le Golf National, eight under par.
Finland's Sami Valimaki is on -6, with United States' Xander Schauffele, Chile's Joaquin Niemann, South Korea's Tom Kim and Argentina's Emiliano Grillo on five under.
A big group on four under, including Britain's Tommy Fleetwood, Ireland's Rory McIlroy, and Australian Jason Day. Team USA's Scottie Scheffler is on three under.
Tennis
In the women's doubles quarterfinal, Italians Jasmine Paolini/Sara Errani lead Britain's Katie Boulter/Heather Watson by a set, and are a double break up at 3-0 in the second, too.
Hockey
In the men's hockey pool stages, home favourites France lead Britain 1-0 thanks to Timothee Clement's goal 46 seconds before the interval.
Britain have gone 0/10 from penalty corners so far, which, if it isn't clear, is not good.
Can they turn it around?
3x3 Basketball
The Americans, in last place after this loss, are now in danger of not even making the play-in round of the tournament, where the third- through sixth-placed teams play one another for the final two spots in the semifinals.
They have a decent shot at progressing if they win, but are almost certainly out if they lose, depending on how other matches go. Big pressure...
Swimming
Léon Marchand swam his 200m prelim about 12 hours after leaving the arena last night after his historic double-gold feat.
He cruises through to the semifinals as the third qualifier (of 16).
Both American men (Shaine Casas and Carson Foster) are also through to the semis.
Unsurprisingly, the Aussies will be the top seed in the women's 4x200 freestyle relay tonight.
It'll be interesting to see what the U.S. coaches do with the lineup, as they opted to not use Katie Ledecky, Paige Madden or Claire Weinstein (the top three qualifiers in the 200 free at U.S. trials) in morning prelims.
Team USA qualified fourth.
Gymnastics
Giorgia Villa stood on the podium at the Bercy Arena and took a bite. Her taste buds picked out the cold, metallic success of Italy’s first silver medal in the women’s team gymnastics since 1928. They are more used to Parmigiano Reggiano.
Before Tuesday’s all-around final in Paris, two images defined Villa.
One was of the 21-year-old upside down on a vault, each of the four medals she won at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires hanging proudly from an outstretched leg.
The other, posted on Instagram, was of her kneeling on the floor apparatus clutching “my best friend”; a wheel of cheese.

The Paris Olympics
Its official name is: Games of the XXXIII Olympiad, which if you know your Roman Numerals/studied Latin at school indicates it’s the 33rd iteration of the event.
There are around 45,000 volunteers worldwide working on the Games, chosen from around 300,000 applicants.
The 2024 Summer Paralympics, also in Paris, France, will take place from August 28, 2024, to September 8. That is a 12-day (inclusive) run of a little less than a fortnight.
It is the first time Paris has hosted the Paralympics in its history, though Tignes and Albertville in south-eastern France jointly hosted the 1992 Winter Paralympics.
